The Plant Controller is responsible for all finance and accounting aspects of the subsidiary, partnering with the business management team to drive revenue growth, manufacturing performance, and return on investments to meet financial objectives. Key areas of focus for this role include monthly performance analysis and reporting, budget and forecast development, product costing, evaluating investment opportunities, cost reduction projects, and ensuring compliance and financial controls in accordance with Armstrong policies.

The Plant Controller reports to the Director of Finance, Architectural Specialties and has a strong dotted line to the business subsidiary leadership team. This position manages one accounting analyst.

What you will do

  • Complete all aspects of the month-end closing for Tectum, Inc., and subsidiaries
    • Complete and/or review all posted journal entries
    • Generate financial statements, analyze results, and present analysis to business and functional leadership
    • Reconcile all company balance sheet accounts
    • Record and maintain fixed asset information in SAP
    • Internal Controls and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance
  • Oversee the administration for accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll
  • Support SAP implementation
  • Develop product cost model to aid in custom project cost quote process
  • Prepare and develop the annual and long-range plant budget, including building product cost standards
  • Support the business in generating and quantifying cost savings opportunities
  • Provide financial analysis to business and functional leadership, Internal Audit, and external auditors as requested
  • Manage and develop Accounting Analyst
  • Lead and manage special projects as assigned

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises 1 Accounting Analyst

What will make you successful

  • BS in Accounting or Finance.
  • 3+ years of experience and a solid grasp of manufacturing accounting
  • Prior supervisory and/or management experience
  • Ability to link and analyze plant operational metrics to financial performance
  • Proven operational leadership skills in implementing and supporting new ideas

What will make you stand out

  • Experience with SAP, Epicor, or similar ERP system
  • 3+ years of experience as a plant controller in a manufacturing environment
  • CPA

Plant Environment - This position operates in a manufacturing setting and can be subject to extreme cold and hot temperatures; uneven walking surfaces with cords, tools, and other obstacles; intermittent loud noises; and dusty or dirty conditions. Required PPE includes hard hat (when required), safety glasses, earplugs, steel toe/composite boots, and fall protection.

About the location (Newark OH)

Tectum, Inc., a subsidiary of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI), is one of fifteen Armstrong plants in North America. Our Tectum manufacturing plant employs manypeople across 2 shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of our Tectum product. With over 60 years of innovation and experience in reducing noise worldwide, our Tectum plant has the right product for your noise problem.

This position is located in beautiful and historical Newark, Ohio, the county seat of Licking County, 40 miles northeast of Columbus. We also have another location in nearby Hebron. Licking County has lots to offer. We have an abundance of parks including Newark Earthworks, the National Historic Landmark where visitors can explore 2,000-year-old geometric earthworks that served as both cathedral and astronomical observatories for the Hopewell Culture.
