JOB SUMMARY

This is an exciting opportunity to obtain hands-on supply chain experience in a fast-growing biotech company. As a Global Supply Chain Support Services Intern, you will support a variety of commercial manufacturing and supply chain areas including Drug Substance Manufacturing, Procurement, Logistics, Packaging Engineering, and Data Management as well as opportunity to learn more about the greater Global Supply Chain functions of the Commercial and Clinical Supply Chain teams. This is a unique chance for you to garner a breadth of experience across the full Contract Manufacturing and Supply Chain spectrum while gaining valuable engineering, life science and biotechnology industry experience.

The ideal candidate will be ready to roll up their sleeves and bring their passion for Supply Chain into a fast-paced, innovative learning environment. This individual should bring energy every day and be eager to work collaboratively as we make hope a reality for patients with rare and orphan diseases.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Manufacturing Science and Technology (MS&T): Work with the MS&T team on current industry wide manufacturing issues such as Nitrosamines as well as product specific projects in manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API).
  • Procurement: Work with the Procurement team to create work instructions, educational tools, and other resources for the internal stakeholders. Work with the Buyers to observe the processes established to enter contract requests, create purchase requisitions (PR) and purchase orders (PO), coordinate/align invoicing with Accounts Payable (AP), work on requests for proposal (RFP) processes and other strategic sourcing efforts. Work with Procurement to create educational materials to support the educational needs and add build resources for internal stakeholders.
  • Logistics: Work with Logistics team to explore how they coordinate and track shipments, ensure import/export documentation is accurate/compliant, partner with the 3PL shipping companies and other logistics related efforts.
  • Packaging Engineering: Work with Principal Packaging Engineer as they ensure our primary/secondary packaging designs and content are compliant, transfer technology between CMO's and implement a new Global Artwork and Label Management System (GLAMS).
  • Data Management: Work with our Data Management team to learn about our critical Supply Chain Systems and how they all interface (Oracle SCM, ABC Master Planner, Oracle Legal, and GLAMS)
  • Commercial Supply Chain: Shadow sessions with Commercial Supply Chain Operations Managers as they coordinate and manage our end-to-end Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMO) network (raw material, starting material, Active Product Ingredients/API, Drug Product/Capsules, primary/secondary packaging, and distribution), Supply/Demand planning, Sales & Operations Planning and System Integration efforts.
  • Clinical Supply Chain: Shadow sessions with Clinical Supply Chain Operations Managers as they coordinate and manage our Clinical Supply Network (secondary packaging & labeling, import/export processes, depot network management) and observe their processes for Supply/Demand planning.



EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS



  • Working towards a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, Supply Chain, Logistics, or related discipline with a minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communicator.
  • Self-starter who can work independently.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust quickly as priorities change.
  • Team player who is willing to flex outside the prescribed role.
  • Passionate about supply chain work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Operations and Supply Chain Management classroom experience preferred.
  • Must be available to work 30-40 hours/week during the period of the summer internship.
  • Must be in proximity to the Durham/RTP office - on-site presence may be required for meetings and intern program activities.
