Job Summary

As a Communications Specialist, you will be a key member of our Corporate Communications unit. You will support
communications plans and projects and manage the creation of clear and compelling content that engages
employees, strengthens our culture, and aligns with Selective's strategic priorities and business objectives. This
includes writing, editing, designing, and/or distributing internal and external company communications. In addition,
you will be responsible for producing engaging and informative video communications, including conceptualizing
content, developing storyboards, recording, editing, and distributing to internal and external audiences. All job duties
and responsibilities must be carried out in compliance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

Job Responsibilities



  • Support communication initiatives that help manage Selective's reputation, build employees' business acumen, and/or create a highly engaged team.
  • Conduct research and collaborate with stakeholders to draft and/or edit clear and concise written, verbal, and visual materials, ensuring brand consistency and quality.
  • Lead initiatives to engage employees in philanthropy, including liaising with employee groups to identify and communicate volunteer activities, coordinate and promote corporate giving initiatives and programs, and maintain related metrics.
  • Effectively distribute timely communications to targeted audiences via internal (email, intranet, etc.) and external (website, social media, PR Newswire) channels.
  • Manage the department's communication platforms, maintaining familiarity with applicable tools and capabilities and our vendor partner relationships.
  • Manage the department's operating budget, including maintaining appropriate budget and expense records.
  • Help execute communication plans supporting corporate and employee branding strategies that increase employee engagement and authentically communicate Selective's unique culture to current and prospective employees.
  • Coordinate employee events and activities and assist in planning enterprise-wide communication forums, including Quarterly Business Update Meetings and Town Halls.
  • Provide communication support and advice to internal stakeholders to ensure that all corporate communications are consistent in delivery and design and convey appropriate messaging.
  • Manage content calendar to ensure timely execution of relevant communication initiatives.


Job Qualifications



  • College degree preferred in Communication, Journalism, Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, or similar area of study.
  • 3+ years' experience in a communications role or similar.
  • Must have good computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in SharePoint, Photoshop, and Poppulo is a plus but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
  • Experience with employee engagement initiatives and event planning.
  • Experience working independently, completing tasks, and meeting deadlines with strong attention to detail.
  • A solid communication background in producing, writing and editing for the news media and/or business, developing or assisting in the development of presentations, press releases, articles, profile stories, signage, videos, and social media posts.
  • Experience with posting internet/intranet content and monitoring metrics.
  • Ability to work against short deadlines, manage multiple projects and maintain professionalism under pressure. Independent thinker who can think outside the box to support and implement constantly evolving, effective communication messages and campaigns.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and maintain confidentiality.

The expected starting salary range for this role is$90,000 - $130,000. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, performance, and business needs.
