Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Systems Engineer - Architecture and Design to join the Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) Ground Sustainment Services (LGSS) program to add to our distinguished team to sustain and enhance the Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) Common Ground System (CGS). The JPSS CGS is responsible for implementing JPSS Program command, control, and communications and data processing requirements for JPSS CGS-serviced missions. The JPSS is the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) next-generation operational Earth observation Program that acquires and distributes global environmental data from multiple polar-orbiting satellites, playing a critical role to NOAA's mission to understand and predict changes in weather, climate, oceans, coasts, and space environments, which supports the Nation's economy and protects life and property.

Responsibilities:

    Lead a small-team of Engineering professionals (Verification and Test) focused on developing and managing formal test activities for the LGSS program.
  • Support system level engineering development to include a wide variety of engineering level artifacts to include Interface Control Documentation, Design Documents and Requirements for the Ground System.
  • Supporting software integration and test (I&T) activities for Satellite Ground Station Command and Control applications ensuring system compatibility to meet program technical, schedule and cost objectives will be developed over time. End-to-end, this includes developing and managing requirements supporting the integration of COTS-based systems and custom software, from the system design phase through development, documentation, installation, and commissioning of the completed system.
  • Generate segment and sub-system level requirements to include verification approaches in all phases of development.
  • Support generation of test procedures for the validation and verification of software components to analyze requirements for integration and/or testability issues.
  • Support Requirements readiness reviews, formal system verification of the system requirements and final test reports
  • Witness verification test events for the delivery of any/all new and updated requirements
  • Recognize and adopt best practices in documentation, testing and efficient use of resources.
  • Develop, review, and execute component as well as segment level Test Engineering Duties
  • Have a detailed understanding of the Requirements Lifecycle.
  • Utilize JIRA in an Agile development environment.
  • Support and be familiar with architectural development of the ground system.


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Min 12 years with BS/BA, Min 10 years with MS/MA, Min 7 years with PhD
  • BS/BA in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Math, or related technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Min 6-10 years of JPSS/Consolidated Ground System experience in an Engineering Discipline
  • Experience working in an Agile development environment.
  • Background level understanding of Cloud Services such as:
    • EC2
    • S3
    • EFS/EBS
    • SNS/SQS
    • AmazonMQ
    • S3/SQS/AmazonMQ
    • Amazon Aurora or RDS
  • Extensive experience with Windows OS and Microsoft Office products
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Systems Engineering Tools (e.g., Rational DOORS)
  • Familiar with the Atlassian tool suite, including Jira, Insight, Confluence, Risk Register, Crucible, Bitbucket, Git, etc.
  • Familiar with CAMEO (or related) architecture Design Tools that support Models Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
  • Familiar with working within a distributed virtual team environment, with proficiency in remote collaboration tools and practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a willingness to foster strong relationships with coworkers and vendors.
  • In addition to conventional SDLC requirements work, also carry at least a familiarity with security controls related to NIST 800-53 and related solutions; certification is desirable but not required
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with the ability to dynamically tailor communications effectively to different levels of the organization
  • Reside near the Washington, DC area optimal but not required.
  • Preference to have an existing public trust clearance.

Target Salary Range

$135,000 - $216,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
