Note: The number of positions has been updated from two to three
University Facility Services is looking to hire a Utility Piping Technician IVs to maintain the chilled water, steam, condensate return, gas, sewers and other piping systems essential to the effective operations of the University. The position will perform precision welding techniques in the design, layout, fabrication, joining and repairing of metals, piping and pressure vessels. UFS employs just over 600 employees and services over 11 million square feet of campus-keeping the grounds beautiful, classrooms clean, and all utilities moving through the campus. Duties & Responsibilities |
- Install, repair and
maintain chilled water, steam and condensate return, water, gas, sewers and other piping systems as related to the production and distribution of utilities. - Inspect joints, valves,
pumps, boilers, and other utility mechanical system components to locate malfunctions, repair or replace as necessary. - Design, fabricate, join
and/or repair equipment, piping and various types of metals and structures using oxygen-acetylene, electric arc, MIG and TIG welding techniques. - Study plans, drawings,
specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of repairs or replacement as required. - Troubleshoot Utility
Systems for Chilled Water makeup losses, infiltration of hard water into Steam Condensate return systems. - Support Contractors,
Maintenance Staff and auxiliary Maintenance Staff with utility isolation for various building projects. - Stage fabricated piping
and equipment throughout Utility Tunnel Distribution System to complete repairs and expedite materials. - Maintain Tunnel
Distribution System Security.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge in welding
techniques, tools and equipment. - Knowledge in tools,
equipment, and materials common to the plumbing and welding trades. - Knowledge in the
installation, repair and maintenance of plumbing and utility piping systems. - Knowledge in the design, fabrication, joining
and repair of metals, piping, equipment, and structures. - Ability to lift up to 50lbs.

Minimum Qualifications |
- High school diploma or
equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.. - Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or
equivalent combination of education and work experience. - Valid AZ Driver's license with the ability to drive according to
the University Fleet Safety Policy..

Preferred Qualifications |
- AWS B2.1 SMAW 6G Pipe Welding Certification.
- Experience in Soldering and Brazing applications.
- Experience in Pipefitting and Rigging applications.
- University setting experience.
