Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The Department of Art, Media, Performance, and Design ( AMPD) at the University of the Pacific invites applications for a Tenure-Track Assistant Professor position in Directing, Acting, and Producing Across Media. We seek a passionate and experienced individual to join our dynamic faculty team, with the position beginning on 7/01/2025.
The successful candidate will be instrumental in shaping the Media Arts and Production ( MPRO) program and providing oversight for the Production Leadership concentration within MPRO. This role is critical for developing future leaders in film, television, and digital media by offering foundational knowledge in directing, acting, and producing-skills essential for students planning careers in media production.
The position will include teaching a variety of courses aimed at honing both technical and creative abilities across media formats, and will emphasize practical applications of acting, directing, and producing in areas such as live-action film, animated media, and transmedia storytelling.
Courses to be taught include :


  • CORE 1 or CORE 2 (General Education)

  • THEA 073: Acting for the Camera

  • THEA 071: Fundamentals of Acting

  • MPRO 051: Introduction to Directing

  • MPRO 150: Transmedia and Producing

  • MPRO 137: Motion Capture

  • MPRO 185: Capstone


Responsibilities:

  • Teaching a minimum of 20 units (typically 5 courses) per year.
  • Leading the Production Leadership concentration within the MPRO program
  • Advising students, conducting research and/or creative activities, and participating in departmental and university service.
  • Engaging with the College's first-year seminar program and developing general education courses with broad appeal.

In addition to teaching key courses that support the MPRO program, the successful candidate will also help students in Pacific's Conservatory of Music by teaching acting courses to prepare them for future work in opera and musical theater.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A terminal degree (PhD, MFA, or equivalent) in a relevant field such as Directing, Acting, Producing, or a related area.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Demonstrated expertise in at least two of the following areas: acting, directing, or producing. Proficiency in all three is preferred.
  • Experience across at least two distinct media formats, such as animated film, live-action film, live theatre, opera, television, web series, or commercials.
  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the college level.
  • Ability to develop and teach a variety of courses within the MPRO curriculum.
  • Commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration and student-centered teaching.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Work is performed during standard hours; Additional hours may be required to meet business needs or deadlines.
Hiring Range $72,000 - $74,000 (We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.)
