Scope of Position

Under the direction of a pharmacist and in coordination with other technicians, the Pharmacy Compliance Technician:

  • Serves as functional and technical expert in regulation and accreditation standards related to health system pharmacy.

  • Optimizes and executes tasks within pharmacy areas to maintain compliance with accreditation standards, federal and state regulations, and other requirements related to the practice of health system pharmacy.

  • Maintains expertise in existing, proposed, and newly enacted federal and state rules and regulations, Joint Commission (JC) accreditation standards, USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards and requirements relative to the practice of pharmacy within the health system.

  • Acts as a positive role model and in an encouraging manner conducive to the hospital, department and administrations visions and values.

  • Assists with and/or leads productivity management, training, mentoring of new staff, special projects, and committee meetings.

  • Complies with all hospital and department rules, regulations and requirements.

Position Summary

The Pharmacy Compliance Technician is responsible for tracking, monitoring, reviewing, interpreting, and communicating all aspects of existing, proposed, and newly enacted federal and state rules and regulations, Joint Commission (JC) accreditation standards, and USP <795>, <797>, and <800> standards relative to the practice of pharmacy within the health system. This position collaborates with the Director, other managers, supervisors, clinical pharmacists, and pharmacists who are responsible and accountable for decisions affecting successful JC accreditation, compliance with enacted federal and state rules and regulations, and sterile compounding considerations. Participates in the development of policies and procedures related to applicable pharmacy accreditation standards and compliance with federal and state rules and regulations. This position is also responsible for supporting initiatives of area managers and frequently assists in their implementation.

Minimum Qualifications

For Hire: High school diploma or equivalent, active OH Board of Pharmacy Certified Pharmacy Technician registration, PTCB/NHA certification, 1 year of experience in health system pharmacy preferred.

On-going: PTCB/NHA certification and OH Board of Pharmacy registration must be maintained for continued employment.
