What you'll do

During this exciting time of transformation, we are seeking a Senior Manager, System Test Engineering! Are you looking to use your antenna systems experience in innovative ways? You will lead team members in planning and execution of test projects for Viasat's portfolio of Network Antenna & Gateway Products. You will collaborate with customers and test solutions that lend themselves to data analysis & AI/ML initiatives, and deliver results to internal customers in a matrixed environment.


The day-to-day

  • Build partnerships to create product testing parameters as well as identify and resolve product test issues
  • Influence teams on design for test (DFT) strategies and methodologies and on the use of preferred frameworks, platforms, and tools for the validation of product functionality, performance, and reliability
  • Build, develop, and lead a high performing test engineering team
  • Provide career growth, technical guidance and direction, and mentoring
  • Develop product and technology expertise in support of Viasat's vertically integrated portfolio
  • Provide technical direction, support, training, and mentoring to test engineering staff
  • Provide leadership and collaborators with guidance, input, and recommendations on risks and opportunities
  • Ensure all tests and procedures meet company and industry standards

What you'll need

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
  • 10+ years of demonstrated ability in an Engineering/Production test environment
  • 5+ years of manager experience and associated responsibilities including hiring, compensation, career growth, mentoring, performance evaluations, etc.
  • Experience in product test development for radio frequency (RF) products and antenna systems (test requirements, test strategies/plans, test cases/methodologies, test documentation)
  • Validated background in developing, deploying, and supporting factory test processes and procedures
  • Track record of continuous improvement of test engineering processes and standards across the organization
  • Direct experience with transitioning products out of R&D into full rate production (manufacturing) by collaborating with customers, (e.g., Engineering, Quality, Reliability, Operations, management/leadership)
  • Experience with requirements development for test measurements and data collection
  • Ability to support multiple simultaneous projects and programs
  • Provide technical status to senior management and manage collaborator expectations
  • Meet the regulations and requirements to work on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) programs
  • Travel up to 10%
  • US citizenship required

What will help you on the job

  • Experience with test strategies and methods for parabolic, flat panel, and phased array antennas and electro-mechanical systems
  • Sharp business discernment to create proposals and optimize return on investment analysis (e.g., MBA, MEM or equivalent)
  • Experience developing test processes that will be deployed at contract manufacturers
  • Familiar with avionic and maritime industry standards and processes
  • Familiarity with test approaches for satellite communication products and a good understanding of industry test standards and methods
  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

This role is considered a Safety-Sensitive position and requires participation in Viasat's Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Program. This includes successful completion of any program requirements including a pre-employment drug screening.

Salary range

$126,000.00 - $179,500.00 / annually.
For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $156,500.00- $211,500.00/ annually
