Overview
St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students each year. Across its five Schools, Fisher offers nearly 40 majors in the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, education, and nursing; 11 pre-professional programs; and master's and doctoral programs in business, nursing, education, pharmacy, and public health. Job Responsibilities
90% of time
* Surveys buildings to determine painting needs and develops schedules for completion.
* Applies paints, sealers, and solvents to interior and exterior building surfaces such as plaster, drywall, concrete and wood.
* Performs special refinishing tasks including wood surface preparation, staining and sealing.
* Plans summer painting projects in resident halls and classrooms. Interviews, trains & supervises summer student workers, purchases materials and supplies.
* Performs building exterior and interior caulking, finish repair, mud and tape and texturing tasks.
* Tracks material used on specific projects and documents for future reference.
* Maintains inventory of materials, supplies and equipment.
* Manages work performed by outside contractors for adherence to plans & specifications as well as all federal, state and local codes.
* Writes specifications for repairs and new construction.
* Research methods and materials required to complete assigned tasks.
* Responds to routine and emergency calls for repairs and service.
* Planning and project management of assigned projects.
* Train and direct the work of other Painters and skilled trades.
10% of time
* Assist other skill trades in daily activities and renovation projects.
<1% of time
During times of unusually high workloads in other Facilities Services groups, duties may include assisting grounds, moving/set-up or housekeeping.
Education / Experience
Associates Degree or two years of trade school training or equivalent experience plus a minimum of ten years' experience as a painter. Certification in lead paint remediation is required. Expert knowledge of color matching, paint tinting is required. Must have valid NYS driver's license.
Competencies / Skills
* High level of knowledge of construction and remodeling trades, practices, procedures, techniques, tools, equipment, materials, specifications, quality control, cost control and safety.
* High level of quality painting, color matching, tinting, drywall & wood finishing and wallpapering skills.
* Knowledgeable in all applicable codes, standards and regulations.
* Project management of assigned projects requiring coordination and providing direction to other trades.
* Conceptualize, design, cost estimate, schedule, develop bill of materials for assigned projects.
* Ability to draw appropriate sketches to communicate details to other skilled trades
* Develop a multi-discipline project schedule and coordinate trades.
* Mathematical skills and analytical skills necessary to do material take-offs and cost estimates.
* Safely operate and maintain all hand and power tools required to accomplish assignments.
* Ability to effectively organize work to effectively perform job function
* Train and direct the work of other painters and skilled trades
Supervision of Employees
Supervision of other skilled trade staff and unskilled workers may be required
Work Environment
? Frequent inside and outdoor in all types of weather conditions; possible exposure to hazardous materials and severe weather conditions.
? Exposed to normal working hazards associated with mechanical & electrical room environments. Atmosphere can be noisy in certain areas.
