Description

Under the supervision of the Courier Coordinator and the Courier/ Fleet Compliance Manager, the lead courier is responsible for acting as a positive role model to all current and new drivers. The lead courier assists with all of the training aspects for new and current drivers. When on the road provide timely pick-ups and deliveries of Laboratory specimens between client offices and the Laboratory. Extensive area knowledge with a flexible schedule is a must. The courier Department operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Compliance Responsibilities:
* Understands and adheres to North Shore Medical Centers' (NSMC) compliance standards as they appear in Corporate Compliance Policies, Code of Conduct, and NSMC's Policies.
* Professional, Supervisory and Managerial Staff, keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state and NSMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
* Managerial Staff ensure that their staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.


Core Job Responsibilities.
* When acting as a lab driver and or cover driver, uses assigned laboratory vehicle to perform pick-ups of laboratory
specimens from client offices and deliver to Salem lab
* Documents all pick-up and delivery times in an appropriate manner.
* Follow all proper specimen pick-up procedures and policies
* Makes sure laboratory vehicles are maintained, fueled, and kept neat and clean.
* Adheres to all lab driver protocols and polices (DOT, Parking)
* Exhibits appropriate communication with all levels of personnel
* Develop, train, and coach all new and current lab drivers
* Work on all aspects to supply fulfillment for Outreach clients and phlebotomist draw stations when time permits
* Assists Courier Coordinator with all centrifuge swap outs, NH Supply deliveries, and pickups, fleet maintenance
* Perform scheduled "Peer check rides" to ensure drivers are adhering to all specimen transport protocols and all
DOT regulations
* Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment in accordance with the OSHA
Blood Borne Pathogens Standard, Infection Control and Safety Policies.
* Fills in as dispatcher when the Courier Coordinator is not available or on vacation
* Participates in the "On Call" rotation schedule, and Holiday dispatch schedule
* Ensure all drivers are provided with instructions given by the Courier Coordinator and Courier Manager on procedure or protocol changes, new clients, new pick-up locations
* Coach, train, and mentor all new NSMC drivers on their newly assigned routes and courier methods
* Takes over dispatch when the Courier Coordinator is not available or is on vacation
* Reports any violations, client issues, misconduct by drivers, performance issues, on daily/nightly report log
that is required to be passed in or emailed at the end of the shift to the Courier Coordinator
* Assists with random audits of Route sheets, time stamps/post trip reporting/parking/tote storage
* Ensures all NSMC lab cars are parked in the proper area, and there are no issues in the lab car parking lot
* Performs other duties as assigned. Including housekeeping duties
* Assists when needed in closing out all Courier related calls in the Client Calls System.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities; (Include number and type of FTEs)
* No direct supervisory responsibilities. Troubleshoot immediate issues, and ensure all policies and procedures are followed



Qualifications
Required:
  • Basic computer and communication skills,ability to deal with a wide range of personalities
  • 3+ years in the Logistic
    field
  • Requires completion of High
    School or Equivalent
  • A Valid and Current Driver's License, and clean driver's record per NSMC policy, which will be reviewed annually during employee's employment.
2+ years as Laboratory
driver preferred.
