Position Announcement

The Department of Mathematics at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time professional-track Instructor of the Practice position, starting Fall Semester or August 2025. The UT Mathematics Department seeks to help students achieve their academic and career goals by guiding them toward becoming competent users of mathematics and mathematical applications. By creating a supportive, equitable environment and using active learning strategies, our faculty engage students in critical thinking and problem-solving activities. Responsibilities

  • Teach 30 credits of lower-division undergraduate mathematics per academic year.
  • Work with the department chair and other faculty in lower-division and developmental course management, including preparation of class offerings and schedules, mentoring part-time instructors (adjunct faculty), and rotating course coordination.
  • Hold regular office hours as outlined in academic policy.
  • Attend department meetings, vote on department issues, and advise on student assessment as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field by January 2025 required. Bachelor's degree with professional expertise equivalent to a Master's degree will also be considered.
  • Teaching experience in lower-level Mathematics in a college setting and working with diverse student populations are required. Finalists will be asked to give a teaching demonstration as part of the interview process.
  • Ability and willingness to teach a range of mathematics content courses, including courses in developmental mathematics.
  • Ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work well with other faculty, staff, and students.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track faculty position. Faculty service with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $52,000 - $55,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
