Position Announcement

The Accounting, Finance, and Analytics Department at Utah Tech University seeks applicants for an Instructor of the Practice in Accounting position, with service beginning Fall Semester 2025. The Accounting program supports the College of Business core requirements, and develops graduates with value-added skills and applicable knowledge in highly interactive, student-oriented learning environments. This position is open to specialization, but there is a preference for an interest in Accounting Information Systems and FinTech in their classes. Responsibilities

  • Teach lower division courses in accounting and other related business areas for undergraduate levels as assigned. Base job workload is 30 credit hours per academic year.
  • Develop and teach courses online as assigned.
  • Counsel/advise students majoring in accounting and related areas.
  • Maintain regular office hours and be available to students and other faculty.
  • Attend department, division, and college faculty meetings; work with other faculty in program management; and adhere to university policies.
  • Serve on university, division, and/or department committees as assigned.
  • Perform other faculty duties as prescribed by AACSB accreditation standards.

Qualifications

  • Masters of Taxation or Masters of Accountancy from an AACSB accredited college or university is required. Professional designation as a Certified Public Accountant or Enrolled Agent is highly preferred, as well as other active professional designations.
  • Specialization and/or experience in tax accounting, plus experience in overseeing a VITA program or other volunteer tax related service is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated teaching effectiveness in tax courses at the undergraduate and graduate college level.
  • Remain active in the profession of accounting, including maintaining professional designations and certifications.
  • Ability to develop innovative curricula, appropriate course content, and teach under a variety of teaching situations.
  • Commitment to fostering an effective learning environment.
  • Ability to work well with students and other faculty members.
  • Knowledge and experience of assessment and accreditation standards.
  • A record of scholarly or professional activity in accounting/taxation.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2025, with pay and benefits starting July 1, 2025. Annual salary of $75,000-$80,000 depending on qualifications and experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
