JOB SUMMARY:

The Employee Relations Specialist is responsible for effectively and consistently supporting complaints, investigations, and performance issues to promote positive employee relations while ensuring on-going compliance with federal, state and other regulatory requirements and supporting the overall functions of the Human Resources department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides guidance and direction to management on matters of employee discipline and performance management to ensure consistent and equitable treatment of all employees
  • Advises and consults with managers and employees to resolve issues reported through the formal process
  • Conducts thorough and accurate investigation of complaints, consulting with the CHRO as needed
  • Ensures compliance with HR policies as well as all current legal requirements
  • Interprets, executes and/or develops policies and procedures; responds to requests for information on HR policy interpretation
  • Administers performance management systems, tracks evaluation due dates, and ensures annual compensation increases are processed in a timely manner
  • Manages employee survey process and analyzes results and prepares reports for distribution
  • Serves as liaison for unemployment services company, completing claim information in a timely manner, and communicating hearing details to supervisors
  • Assists the HR department in carrying out various human resources programs and procedures for all employees
  • Participates in delivering training on HR topics
  • Creates and submits informational reports as requested
  • Contributes to employee newsletters

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology or related field plus six years of Human Resources experience (at least two years specific to employee relations) OR ten years related experience in the Human Resources field (at least two years specific to employee relations)

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • PHR preferred
  • Valid state driver's license

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Sedentary

Lifting up to 10 pounds maximum and occasionally lifting and/or carrying such articles as dockets, ledgers and files. Walking and standing are occasionally required. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons

Light

Lifting up to 20 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 10 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

Medium

Lifting up to 50 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

Heavy

Lifting up to 100 pounds maximum with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds. May be required to regularly stand for extended periods of time, walk, reach with hands/arms with full range of motion, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, push or pull. Regularly required to talk and hear. Frequently required to use hands and fingers to hold, handle and feel objects, knobs, keys and/or buttons.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Limited

General office environment where the employee is infrequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes, airborne particles or outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually quite.

Moderate

Employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate.

High

Employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. Employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles and outside weather conditions. Employee is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, risk of electrical shock and/or vibration. The noise level is usually loud.
