Job Description

The Vertex Co-op Program offers students the opportunity to learn about the pharmaceutical industry from a hands-on perspective. Job Summary:

The Stem Cell Research department is focusing on Type 1 Diabetes cell therapy. We evaluate PSCs for their potential to adapt to our manufacturing process and differentiate to SC-islets.

These stem cells and their differentiated SC-islets are being characterized by flow cytometry, immuno-cytochemistry, gene expression and functional assays such as insulin responsiveness to glucose.

Key Responsibilities:

The nature of this project may include several characterization techniques such as protein expression (flow cytometry, Western blot, Immunohistochemistry), gene expression profiling (qPCR, Nanostring) and most importantly cell culture techniques (expansion, banking and microscopy).

On a scientific level, we aim to direct our reflections and experiments on induced pluripotent stem cells and embryonic stem cells in regard to our manufacturing cell therapy process .

Different stem cell sources and banks may result in different differentiation outcome. We are looking to identify predictive markers and increase our knowledges on differences between cell banks impacting differentiation outcomes. What is a 'good' stem cell?

The candidate will interact closely with several members of our teams such as specialists in stem cells differentiation, screening, genetic integrity and epigenetics.

Qualifications:

  • Pursuing master's degree in biology.
  • At least 2 relevant experiences in laboratory which include cell culture techniques or molecular biology techniques.
  • Must be able to adapt to fast-paced environment, eager to learn and impact the projects.
  • Able to collaborate, team player.
  • Permanent legal authorization to work in the United States
  • Candidate must be enrolled in an advanced degree program if graduating before May 2025
  • Candidate must be available to work full-time, 40 hours per week from January - June 2025
