Position Summary

The Medical Secretary is responsible for the scheduling and coordination of patients for all patient services and procedures. The incumbent answers multi-line phones; obtains and documents patient information; coordinates paperwork, insurance referrals/authorizations and arranges for interpreter services when needed.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in operations of assigned department to include, quality assurance, process improvement, data management and customer service
  • Schedules patients for clinical services for all modalities for assigned area
  • Obtains necessary information for the determination of appropriate procedure(s)/appointment
  • Answers multi-line phone system, responding to caller, physician or patient
  • Cancels and reschedules exams/appointments, in coordination with the reception/registration personnel and technical staff, as directed
  • Coordinates insurance referral and authorization information
  • Coordinates interpreter services for patient appointments at MHS and patient visits via phone

Requirements

  • Post high school clerical vocational training or college course work preferred
  • Medical Terminology certification preferred
  • Experience in a medical setting preferred
  • One year of experience working with an electronic medical records system such as EPIC or Cerner
  • If position is located in Imaging, prior imaging/scheduling experience and knowledge of any type of Radiology Information Systems such as McKesson or Philips I-site is preferred

Pay and Benefit Expectations

We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including competitive salary, medical, dental and retirement benefits and paid time off. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position. The pay scale is $20.75 - $31.11 USD. However, pay is influenced by factors specific to applicants, including but not limited to: skill set, level of experience, and certification(s) and/or education. If this position is associated with a union contract, pay will be reflective of the appropriate step on the pay scale to which the applicant's years of experience align.
