LAUNCH ENGINEER - CONNECTION SYSTEMS

JOB LOCATION: SOUTHFIELD, MICHIGAN

As a member of the Connection Systems group North America, the Connection Systems Launch Engineer will be responsible for managing and developing the 3D, 2D print development, release of vertical integration products.

Leads the engineering activity for assigned programs to ensure that products meet customer and company specifications and that engineering milestones are achieved. Responsible for coordinating and monitoring the engineering process and for providing direction as required. Will typically be responsible for managing or leading a group of internal designers and support engineers.

Work includes but not limited to:



  • Review incoming request for quote documentation from customers and internal departments.
  • Provide support to sales and cost estimating of products
  • Review incoming 3D CAD models, rapid prototyping, preparing DFMEAs, material selection, FEA, implementing design changes, drawings and any required stack studies.
  • Perform benchmarking of parts.
  • Provide engineering support in design for manufacturing reviews.
  • Review or develop test plans with customers and internal validation department.
  • Utilize internal engineering process flow.
  • Ability to travel when needed, a few times per year.



Task Breakdown Percentages:



  • 40% Managing the development of 2D and 3D
  • 10% Data management
  • 20% Interaction/processing information
  • 30% Meetings and reporting



Qualifications:



  • Experience with automotive injection molded components, stampings, and assemblies.
  • 3D modeling capability in CATIA V5, NX or Solid works. Able to use CAD as a design review tool at a minimum.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated communicator with information sharing
  • Able to work within a diverse global team with varying levels of experience.
  • Lead a team of designers and lab technicians to the desired project design goals.
  • Able to follow company APQP processes for project documentation.



Bonus If You Have:



  • Experience with electrical connectors, terminals and BDU's.
  • Experience with benchmarking.


  • Experience with FEA simulation.
