Job Summary

Department: Transplant Liver Surgery

This role is approximately 3 months in duration

The Hospital Assistant III plays a key role in supporting the delivery of patient care in an ambulatory setting. Under the supervision of the Administrative Nurse and in collaboration with the clinical team, you will perform a range of clinical and personal care tasks to ensure positive patient outcomes. Your duties will include assisting with various medical procedures, monitoring patient flow, handling laboratory and clinical responsibilities, and ensuring adherence to UCSF Medical Center's standards and policies.

Key Responsibilities:

Clinical

• Perform routine clinical functions such as taking vital signs, documenting chief complaints, and assisting patients with exams and procedures.
• Support clinical staff with complex medical procedures including Laser, TRUS, Colposcopy, and Anoscopy.
• Clean and prepare instruments for the sterile processing department, ensure equipment logs are maintained, and adhere to infection control protocols.
• Assist in patient transportation, specimen collection, and basic lab testing, ensuring compliance with UCSF and regulatory policies.

Communication

• Ensure courteous and professional communication, upholding UCSF's telephone and house standards.
• Act as a liaison between providers and patients, managing delays and service issues while providing clear communication to waiting patients.
• Use UCSF's Electronic Health Record (APEX) system for documentation, including vital signs, patient histories, medication records, and provider orders.

Operations and Maintenance

• Maintain a clean and well-stocked clinical environment, ensuring supplies and lab equipment are in proper working order.
• Coordinate patient services, including scheduling complex procedures and obtaining insurance authorizations.
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and assist with maintaining departmental logs and records.

Please note: An offer will take into consideration the experience of the final candidate AND the current salary level of individuals working at UCSF in a similar role.

Department Description

UCSF's Temporary Employment Program (TEP) recruits and hires temporary employees for immediate clerical and technical support services to UCSF Departments and various off-campus locations. UCSF departments deploy temporary employees to work on special projects, fill in for regular employees who are on vacation or leave, or to temporarily fill a vacant position during recruitment. Frequently temporary employees become successful candidates for career and limited appointment positions.

Required Qualifications

• Certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
• At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or Hospital Assistant in a medical practice.
• Current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

• Transplant experience
