Job Summary

EMBRACE is a clinical program developed to give Black mothers and Black pregnant people an opportunity to receive integrative/collaborative perinatal care from an intentional angle of racial consciousness. EMBRACE is focused on closing the gap for Black maternal and Black infant birthing disparities and reducing inequitable care for a birthing population at risk.

The purpose of this Clinical Social Worker III position is to provide clinical behavioral health services to Black adult patients that are pregnant or who have recently given birth as part of an interdisciplinary team utilizing an Integrated or Collaborative Care Model. This position seeks candidates from backgrounds that represent the targeted population being served; who have perinatal behavioral health expertise and demonstrated commitment to fostering anti-racist practice, racial justice, and behavioral health equity; who will help create more accessible, equitable, coordinated, culturally responsive and person-centered care. This position will help program leadership accomplish the following goals:

1. Implementation of race-concordant mental health and well-being services for pregnant/expecting Black/African American clients including those who are currently underserved by the County medical plan.
2. Implementation of culturally adaptive perinatal interventions and practices that increase client satisfaction, efficacy, and retention.
3. Implementation of perinatal cultural practices that emphasize elements of the Sankofa framework.

This position will (1) provide direct clinical services that include: assessment, diagnosis of mental health conditions, develop of treatment plans, perform therapeutic interventions, including both individual and group, and when appropriate ensuring resource coordination - activities may include responding to potential program referrals, completion of intake documents, crisis intervention, case management, and patient advocacy; (2) complete clinical documentation in the electronic medical record and complete billing encounter forms, (3) collaborate and share information with PCP that supports integrated care; (4) support in-direct patient care activities that are aimed to improve quality of overall medical care experience. Training will be available to learn the use of Perinatal Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Child-Parent Psychotherapy, Attachment Vitamins, and other therapeutic interventions necessary for mental health and well-being.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $41.79 - $72.17 (Hourly Rate).

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences (Ob/Gyn & RS) is a major academic Department in the School of Medicine, engaged in clinical, research, and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, and Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital campuses, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $129 million. Required Qualifications


  • Master's degree in social work, marriage and family therapist, psychology, or related field from an accredited university
  • Current CSW or MFT licensure issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
  • 3+ years of post-master's experience
  • 2+ years of providing therapy or mental health services
  • 2+ years of experience and knowledge working with people during the perinatal phase (pregnancy and postpartum), maternal and infant health/well-being
  • Knowledge of mental health, social, and cultural intervention needs of Black/African American communities
  • Experience with utilizing standardized screening tools and determining a DSM-5 diagnosis
  • Experience with group facilitation skills
  • Experience with training provision and/or providing educational material on perinatal specific topics
  • Superior time management skills
  • Superior communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Demonstrated excellence in reliability and attendance
  • Demonstrated excellence in timely clinical documentation
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team setting

Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with hospital billing and medical record documentation systems
  • Experience with community resource coordination
  • Certification in Perinatal Mental Health (PMH-C)
  • Training as a doula or lactation educator

License/Certification


  • Current CSW or MFT licensure issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences
