Position: Associate Director, Health Services Researcher, PROVE Center

Focus: Patient-reported outcomes measurement, implementation science, and data science

The Patient-Reported Outcomes, Value, and Experience (PROVE) Center at Brigham and Women's Hospital (BWH) in Boston, Massachusetts, in collaboration with Harvard Medical School (HMS) and the Mass General Brigham (MGB) health system, is seeking a full-time investigator at the rank of Associate Professor to join in the scientific direction of the Center. The ideal candidate, who will be appointed as the PROVE Center's Associate Director, will be an established health services researcher with expertise in patient-reported outcomes research. Expertise in data science, particularly artificial intelligence, and decision support, is highly desirable.

In this future, PROs will drive the delivery, advancement, and continuous pursuit of high-quality health services, ensuring that every individual receives personalized, equitable, and effective care.

We are seeking a candidate with demonstrated leadership skills who can successfully lead an independent research portfolio while fostering strong collaborative relationships with investigators locally, nationally, and internationally. The candidate will play a key role in the daily operations of the Center, including mentoring early career investigators and trainees. Reporting to the Director, this role will contribute to driving the Center's overall strategic research agenda. The candidate will also be expected to actively engage in the development and execution of research initiatives in collaboration with the MGB PROMs Program, as well as other clinical departments across the health system.

Responsibilities:



  • Lead and expand the Center's primary research initiatives, advancing its mission through impactful research and contributing to its growth by securing sustained extramural funding.
  • Direct and manage an innovative, scientifically rigorous, independent research program at the highest international standards, ensuring a competitive research portfolio.
  • Facilitate and support the research and funding success of the Center's core faculty members, fostering a collaborative and productive research environment.
  • Actively mentor early-career investigators, research fellows, medical students, and other trainees within the Center, promoting the development of the next generation of leaders in PRO research.
  • Uphold an international reputation by engaging in national and international collaborations, disseminating research at scientific conferences, and producing high-quality, peer-reviewed publications and reports, establishing the Center as a global leader
  • Serve as a resource for MGB faculty on projects related to PROs, providing expertise in study design, data collection, analysis, and grant writing.
  • Oversee data collection and ensure the integrity and ethical conduct of ongoing Center projects, maintaining the highest standards of data quality.
  • Cultivate a rich research community dedicated to conducting rigorous and impactful quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research on PROs.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills:



  • A scientist or clinician-scientist with a PhD, ScD, or equivalent degree in Health Services Research, Data Science, Public Health, Epidemiology, or a closely related field.
  • A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, with a strong track record of serving as a Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-PI on federally funded (e.g., NIH) and non-federally funded (e.g., foundations, philanthropy) research grants.
  • In-depth expertise in the development and implementation of patient-reported outcome measures (PROMs), with advanced proficiency in survey research methodology.
  • Extensive experience working within clinical settings and large health systems, particularly involving the use of large datasets derived from the electronic health records.
  • Advanced knowledge of data science, specifically in use of artificial intelligence and decision support.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring, with experience guiding diverse groups of researchers, fellows and trainees.
  • Proven ability to seek and secure funding through effective engagement with funding agencies, advocacy organizations, foundations, policy makers, and other key stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, paired with strong analytical and logical reasoning abilities.
