Description

The hospital-based Teacher works within the Center to provide one-on-one or small group instruction for patients while taking into consideration their medical, developmental, and academic needs.

PRN- as Needed

Qualifications Minimum Education
Bachelor's Degree in education or a related field (Required)

Minimum Work Experience
2 years related teaching experience (Required)

Required Skills/Knowledge
Must be comfortable teaching students grades prek-12
Competency with age-specific needs from childhood through adulthood
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Sensitivity to individuals from varied background and cultures

Required Licenses and Certifications
Teaching license Upon Hire (Required) Or Teaching certificate Upon Hire (Required)

Functional Accountabilities
Delivery of Educational Services
  • Conducts daily lessons to support home school goals/assignments.
  • Prepares lesson plans/educational activities for patients who come without instructional materials.
  • Provides instruction one-on-one at the bedside or in small groups.
  • Provides instructional services based on patients' educational requirements while considering their medical, developmental, and academic needs.
  • Offers a positive learning environment where patients feel successful.
Evaluation of Educational Services
  • Meet with individual patients and parents/guardians to explain school services, invite participation, and answer questions.
  • Assess individual educational needs and identifies goals based on assessment.
  • Develop a plan for school services for individuals and groups as appropriate.
  • Document interventions according to a system developed by education program.
Collaboration of Educational Services
  • Collaborate with relevant departmental and hospital staff to address patient problems that arise.
  • Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Communicate with classroom-based teachers regarding school assignments and progress, as needed.
