Position Description

The Controls Engineer reports to the Engineering Manager for the Data Center vertical. She/he works within the Engineering Department to design, develop, and document Chiller controls within the scope of products manufactured by the Data Center team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and code control systems strategies for HVAC applications using Carel, Trend, Tridium Niagara and Siemens controls platforms.
  • Contributing to platform development projects in support of the R&D roadmap.
  • Work within the processes and procedures established by the center of expertise in Leeds, UK.
  • Define, develop and qualify proprietary projects for key customers.
  • Test software using functional test simulators to ensure correct operation.
  • Produce project documentation including control philosophies, O&M manuals, functional test scripts, FMEA reports and BMS points lists.
  • Attend internal and external client/site meetings as necessary to determine initial scope of works and correct functionality during commissioning.
  • Understand the system as a whole and actively work with the support team to suggest process or efficiency improvements where possible.
  • Work closely within the Development department to incorporate new technologies and features into projects and report improvements back.
  • Responsibility for the training and mentoring of new engineers.
  • Provide technical support for site engineers and customers as required.
  • Be a focal point for contract customers, helping to resolve any issues and develop our commitment to them.
  • Manage larger projects working as part of the project delivery team.
  • Some site work may occasionally be required.
  • Support other engineers and designers with product development projects related to controls design and documentation as needed.
  • Travel to other regions and customer sites if needed (10-15%)
Required Education & Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree and 5+ years of experience (Masters preferred)
  • Computer literate with a working knowledge of structured software design.
  • Experience using one or more of the following: based languages, Javascript, HTML5, Carel 1tool software, Trend SET, Tridium Niagara 4 software.
  • Experience of IEC61131 programming languages using PLC or microcontroller technology.
  • Experience with programmable controllers is desirable but not essential, especially: Carel pCO controllers, IQ controllers, Tridium controllers, or Siemeans controllers.
  • Capable of understanding and developing control strategies.
  • Working knowledge Microsoft Office applications.
  • Must have strong analysis and problem solving skills. She/he shall also have strong communication skills.
  • Prior experience in the field of HVAC and building management systems.
  • Good understanding of communication protocols including Modbus, BACnet and TCP/IP.
  • An appreciation of IoT technologies and protocols such as MQTT would be advantageous.
  • Good electrical knowledge and capable of understanding electrical drawings.
  • Logical and methodical approach to problem solving using own initiative is a must
