Position Highlights

The James C. Wyant College of Optical Sciences is seeking to fill a Building Operations Coordinator position to support our fast-paced environment. Working under the direction and supervision of the Director of Finance/Operation the candidate will be expected to perform job duties with some independence and significant creativity to provide best course of action, solutions, and/or recommendations for any issues presented to them. The candidate will provide support to a teaching and research- intensive college in a team oriented environment.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Inspect building and property for maintenance and repair purposes, including storage areas, hallways, class rooms, research labs and loading dock.
  • Assist faculty to address storage needs within the college for equipment that is not in use or in need of service.
  • Identify storage requirements allocate appropriate space and ensure proper maintenance and security of stored equipment.
  • Initiate repair/maintenance requests with appropriate University departments and monitor progress/costs of requests, ensure projects are on schedule.
  • Exchange information with all UArizona FM shops and some outside vendors for standard logistics.
    Perform general preventative maintenance and repairs that can be done in house that wouldn't involve a service request.
  • Communicate with FM Elock regarding scheduled events to ensure building is locked/unlocked after building normal operation hours.
  • Notify Building occupants about upcoming maintenance,shutdowns and emergency outages that may occur.
  • Monitor paper usage for college copiers, fill drawers with paper as needed, order and receive paper pallets.
  • Assist in set up and disassembly of special event table and chairs with OSC Events Coordinator. And storage for material needed for events.
  • Work with proper University departments to ensure we are in compliance with safety regulations including the Safety
  • Emergency plan to provide a safe environment for our community.
  • Address safety/security issues throughout Meinel Building and other spaces associated with the Wyant College in a timely manner.
  • Assist and work with Research Laboratory and Safety Services to ensure that federal, state, and local regulations are implemented in a safe and secure manner.
  • Assist with facilitating office/lab renovations and relocations, including transportation of heavy equipment around the building.
  • Notify building occupants of all custodial cleaning services including scheduling deep cleaning to labs and offices, waxing floors, carpet cleaning and other special projects.
  • Operate forklift; lifts materials/equipment up to 100lbs. In areas where forklift is not available, will need to independently lift/move/transport these heavy materials/equipment. A dolly and hoist are available for support.
  • Coordinate disposal of surplus property (capital and non-capital) in accordance with state guidelines; works with college's Business Office to ensure records are updated accordingly and attain proper account number(s) for revenue generated from sales.
  • Under general direction, receive asset tags issued by UA Property Management; coordinate the delivery of item(s) to be tagged, take picture, upload property information and photo into UAccess Financials.
  • Assist with physical relocation of inventoried property, update relocation data in UAccess Financials, including any items relocated off campus.
  • Assist in conducting bi-annual physical inventories performed by UA Property and Management in conjunction with OSC Business Office manager.
  • Accept special deliveries and coordinating delivery to procurer.
  • Manage distribution of college mail, campus mail runs and special deliveries.
  • Maintain customer relations.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of building and equipment maintenance/repair techniques.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience required.
  • Federal regulations require that the incumbent be a U.S. citizen,
    legal permanent resident, or have another protected status under 8
    U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) to be ITAR/EAR compliant.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated experience using a forklift, dolly or hoist.
