Project/Process Engineer

Reporting to the Project Engineering Manager, the Project/Process Engineer is responsible for overseeing project activities internal and external to Spincraft. Daily responsibilities include tool/process design, technical/manufacturing documentation for project requirements, and developing and documenting the CNC and manual machining or forming processes. As a part of the Engineering team, this individual will be expected to incorporate value engineering methodologies to support continuous improvement and cost reductions for associated manufacturing processing. Additionally, this position may assist with projects within the larger organization and may provide technical input on new estimates as required and complete repeat site estimates as assigned.


What You'll Do

  • Act as the technical point of contact for the project, customer, and vendors when necessary
  • Oversees a new project and associated development/NPI process from initial design through shipment of the first article to meet the customer requirements on time and under budget
  • File management of project specific drawings, data sets, models, and part lists
  • Assist with/perform part and method entries into the ERP system (Epicor)
  • Create manufacturing documentation (BOMs, routings, part/tool sketches using SolidWorks, visual work instructions, change orders, etc.) to fulfill customer requirements based on information supplied through purchase orders and engineering documents
  • Review and approve QA supplied control plans and inspection logs
  • Develop process flowcharts and pictorial diagrams as necessary
  • Update schedules and project status using MS Project or other for new orders
  • Evaluate/disposition nonconformance reports with rework operations (where required) and assist in providing/implementing corrective action
  • Participate in the maintenance of engineering drawings and standards
  • Act as the technical liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing as required
  • Create visual instructions with process definition and control for safe manufacturing processes
  • Assist with design and approval of tool designs for critical processing
  • Responsible for programming (machining/forming/robot) depending on focus/assignmentsuch as hands on development and troubleshooting, programming, process definition, standard work, tool design & improvement, and process control documentation
  • File management of CNC programs
  • Capture the process information (ex. tooling/fixturing concepts, rollers, inserts, tool holders, speeds, feeds, etc.) necessary for detailed process definition and control
  • Develop "visual" process instructions that will be used by operators (forming, machining, assembly, heat treatment, welding, packaging, etc.) setting up and executing critical processes and can be used for training purposes
  • Analyze technology and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of processes and associated equipment
  • Assist Maintenance with machine trouble shooting, diagnosis, and repair when necessary
  • Update schedules and project status using MS Project or other for new orders when needed
  • Provide estimating support and input through running process simulations, developing layouts, and tool concepts for costing/quoting
  • Support the development and improvement of engineering departmental procedures
  • Assist with developing PFMEAs where/when necessary to mitigate process risk
  • Perform observation/time studies for developing standards and improving processes for feedback to the Project Engineer
  • Analyze process and cost data (planned vs. actual) for technical decision-making purposes
  • Assist with scanning inspection for development/CI purposes if QA/inspectors are unavailable
  • Participate in, track, & lead process improvement activities for assigned parts/projects
  • Evaluate, research, and perform due diligence of new technology(s) under the direction of the team


Team Responsibilities



  • Attend department and company meetings
  • Participate in vendor meetings, trade shows, trainings, etc. as needed
  • Provide necessary support and share documentation within the Engineering team
  • Work in tandem with other departments, including the Manufacturing team to complete projects.


What You'll Bring



  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 2 years engineering experience or previous/relevant intern/co-op experience is preferred
  • Proficient in SolidWorks and MS Office products
  • Familiar with typical fabrication processes such as sheet metal forming, rolling, assembly, welding, heat treating, and machining
