Description

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Nuclear Fuel Performance Principal Investigator to work in our Fuel Development, Performance & Qualification department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our EROB facility in Idaho Falls with every other Friday off.

You will lead high profile irradiation experiments for various projects, including the High Performance Research Reactor Program. You will lead a team of analysts and engineers to design irradiation tests to support qualification of various fuel types, including U-10Mo monolithic fuel for use in the conversion of U.S. High Performance Research Reactors from HEU to LEU fuel. Be the primary technical and programmatic contact and be the primary interface with the appropriate reactor for these experiments. Your work will require business travel, which may include international travel. You will report to the manager of our Fuel Development, Performance & Qualification department.

Responsibilities Include:

To National Technical Lead and Project Manager:



  • Keep capabilities and qualifications current, including completing required training on time for assigned task and work location.
  • For completion of assigned work on time, on budget, and observing expectations and authorities, including lead and contribute to development and oversight of technical scope of work packages, identification of critical path and important milestones, identification and reporting of threats to project execution.
  • Identify NS&T and lab-wide opportunities for improvement.


To Line Manager



  • Increase safety awareness and promote safe practices with the goal of achieving zero injuries for myself. Demonstrate safety commitment through personal safety practices. Identify, correct, and encourage safety practices of others in daily activities and in association with INL-promoted safety program. Report safety concerns. Be aware of and follow the Safety Culture Principles outlined in 'Battelle's Safe Conduct of Research.
  • Follow relevant INL Security policies, including cyber security, physical security, and proper protection of information (e.g. OUO, Business Sensitive, PII, etc.).
  • Input weekly time following INL procedures and manager expectations.
  • Perform required employee performance assessment functions promptly and in accordance with request from management.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:



  • Level 3: Bachelor's and 5 years of experience. Master's and 2 years of experience. PhD and 2 years of experience.
  • Level 4: Bachelor's and 9 years of experience. Master's and 6 years of experience. PhD and 4 years of experience.
  • Ideal candidates will have a graduate degree and more than two years of experience in nuclear fuels development, including irradiation testing and/or post-irradiation examination.



    Job Information:



    • The pay range for this position is: Level 3 ($91,008 - $186,588) / Level 4 ($109,260 - $223,908). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
