Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) Position provides for the safe, reliable monitoring and operation of the Calpine pipeline systems. Controls and optimizes the use of pipeline equipment and coordinates with field personnel, trade desk and power plants to facilitate the proper gas deliveries. The Gas Control Operator works rotating shifts and is a DOT regulated position. Job Responsibilities
- Monitor and maintain pipeline pressures within design criteria.
- Work closely with the field and trade operations to execute all gas changes as they are scheduled.
- Maintain a close relationship with third party pipelines and with both internal and external customers.
- Serve as first contact in an emergency response situation. Responsibilities will include notification of emergency services, regulatory agencies and CPN management.
- Work with the traders, pipeline operations and plants to maximize pipeline throughput and monitor nominations. This also includes coordination between the groups during equipment or pipeline outages.
- Respond to requests from various groups (i.e. project development, fuels, power, operations, etc.) for operating assistance related to pipeline operations.
- Work with field personnel on basic troubleshooting of communications, SCADA, control valves and other equipment related to gas control and operations.
- Assist Manager of Gas Control in the development of daily volume reports, measurement / control station reports, and gather operational data as needed.
- Responsible for updating and maintaining the emergency notification database and the operational call out database.
- Maintain all training required to stay in compliance with all DOT and other regulatory agency requirements.
- Position will be included in the CPN random drug and alcohol program as required by DOT regulations for the operation of natural gas pipelines.
Job Requirements
- Minimum two (2) years college level study in math, engineering or computer related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- Minimum five (5) years experience in gas control, pipeline operations or other field directly related to the gas control function.
- Basic knowledge of gas measurement principles and gas hydraulics.
- Competent with personal computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, and other programs such as: flow and pressure simulation, velocity, pressure drop, purge and pack, regulators and control valves, relief valves, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills together with good interpersonal skills.
- Some travel and overtime is required along with occasional call outs.
- This is a (12 hour) shift position requiring night and weekend work.
