Required Qualifications: (as evidenced by an attached resume)
Ph.D. (or foreign equivalent) in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Cell Biology, or a closely related field in hand by the appointment start date. Experience in confocal microscopy. Experience with tissue dissection, fixation, and immunofluorescence. Experience in molecular biology techniques. At least one published or submitted first author publication.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience with Drosophila melanogaster.
  • Experience with quantitative molecular biology techniques (qPCR or digital PCR).
  • Experience with aging research.
  • Experience with germ line biology.


Brief Description of Duties:
Stony Brook University is seeking a Postdoctoral Associate to work in the research laboratory of Dr. Jonathan Nelson. The successful candidate will participate in a collaborative research project investigating ribosomal DNA maintenance during aging. The project will utilize Drosophila genetics, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, and quantitative molecular biology. The project will focus on molecular and cellular effects of aging. Additional work may involve basic molecular biology techniques, protein biochemistry, RNA biology.

The incumbent will be required to conduct research and ensure that all experiments are following the policies and procedures of Stony Brook University.

DUTIES:



  • Within the predetermined research scope and methodology, carry out experiments and other research activities in accordance with the research goals of the lab.
  • Collect and analyze data for reporting experimental results in scientific publications.
  • Assist with training other lab members in specialized scientific techniques.
  • Participate in weekly lab meetings presenting research data.
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission, which may include attending and presenting research results at Scientific Conferences and Meetings.


Special Notes:
This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
