Position Summary

At Stony Brook Medicine, our Patient Access Representatives are responsible for completing varied, diverse and specialized duties to support the Revenue Cycle, Compliance and Patient Experience by accurately and efficiently completing tasks in areas of Registration, Financial Screening and Verification, and patient throughput.

The Patient Access Lead Representative in our Cancer Center location in Stony Brook, NY is a key member of the Patient Access Services team, serves as a Team Lead over Pre-Registration and Registration staff. As a lead this position coordinates, assigns and guides the work activities of other Pre-Registration and Registration staff. This position monitors work schedules and queues, maintains department Pre-Registration and Registration guidelines and templates, and trains and mentors new and existing staff.

In addition to lead worker duties, this position is also responsible for performing Pre-Registration and Registration duties including implementing and improving workflows for Pre-Registration, analyzing data integrity, producing reports and implementing workflow changes.

Duties of a Patient Access Cancer Center Lead Pre-Registration Representative may include the following, but are not limited to:



  • Assists Supervisor in evaluating patient scheduling and registration issues; responsible for communicating resolution steps or changes in work effort to appropriate staff.
  • Works directly with staff to ensure workflow consistency and routine compliance with departmental and hospital policy and procedures.
  • Provides positive guidance and direction to staff on matters of scheduling/registration protocols and process flows. Identifies and communicates staff development needs to Supervisor and provides training or re-education support.
  • Evaluates patient experience or internal stakeholder satisfaction issues and escalates to Supervisor or Manager as necessary.
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and interpersonal skills in interactions with patients, staff and enterprise stakeholders.
  • Coordinates work assignments for registration staff in collaboration with Supervisor.
  • Contributes staff performance input to Supervisor to support evaluation processes.
  • Utilizes work lists, reports, dedicated mailboxes, Phreesia and other resources to monitor productivity and registration quality. Adjusts staff assignments to meet changing demands.
  • Greet patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and professional manner.
  • Efficiently manage arrival processes for a high volume of appointments across multi-disciplinary service areas at the Cancer Center.
  • Activate Lab orders and secure all required regulatory consents at patient arrival.
  • Obtain complete and accurate patient demographic and insurance information, ensuring demographic information is current and coverage verified to sufficiently meet requirements to generate a "clean" bill.
  • Responsible to complete thorough data assessment of all required patient information through interview and other methods to support goals of patient safety and registration integrity for all Pre-Registered encounters.
  • Provides financial guidance and excellence in Financial Care to patients and their representatives by providing information about their health care insurance coverage and cost share responsibilities.
  • Refers self-pay, or underinsured patients to the Financial Navigation team for guidance on financial assistance.
  • Support POS collections by securing co-payments, deposits and/or deductibles upon arrival.
  • Utilizing various work lists, assess status of registration and financial clearance and ensure satisfactory completion within prescribed time frames.



Qualifications

Required:



  • Associate's Degree with 2 years' working experience in customer service, public health, healthcare, or related industry such as insurance.
  • In lieu of degree, a minimum of 4 years' demonstrated excellence working in customer service, call center, healthcare, or other related industry requiring skills which demonstrate experience in access services, insurance reimbursement, or payment collection.


Preferred:



  • Billing, Accounts Receivable or Customer Service and/or Call Center experience.

  • Successfully complete pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Stony Brook Medicine's Employee Health Services*
  • Complete electronic reference check with a minimum of three (3) professional references.
  • Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screen*
  • Meet Regulatory Requirements for pre-employment screenings.
  • Provide a copy of any required New York State license(s)/certificate(s).


Failure to comply with any of the above requirements could result in a delayed start date and/or revocation of the employment offer.

*The hiring department will be responsible for any fee incurred for examination.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The salary range (or hiring range) for this position is $52,993 - $64,599 / year.

The above salary range represents SBUH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate's validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.

Some positions offer annual supplemental pay such as:

* Location pay for UUP, CSEA & PEF full-time positions ($3,400).
