Project Accountant - Accounting
Halff is looking for a Project Accountant to join our Accounting Department in Tampa, FL.
Job Summary:
The Project Accountant will be responsible for overseeing financial activities related to assigned projects and key clients. This role requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in both accounting and project management. The role should have excellent leadership skills, a strategic mindset, and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure a successful partnership and the financial success of assigned projects and key clients.

Work is primarily independent with occasional guidance under Project Accounting Team Leader.
Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Manage the billing process for complex projects and key clients, including the preparation of invoices and required supplemental reports, tracking of payments, and resolution of any billing discrepancies to meet critical deadlines.
  • Conduct in-depth monthly financial analysis and on-going revenue recognition.
  • Partner closely with project managers to support reporting requirements and ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Support Project Accounting Team Leader with configuration of new system procedures and report setup for both internal and external clients.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve current financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy in PA Organization.
  • Support Project Accounting Team Leader to develop and implement training programs for the project accounting team to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Actively review and manage contracts and communicate effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Potentially lead and mentor a team of project accountants, providing guidance, training, and support to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests for financial information and analysis.
  • Assist with miscellaneous tasks as assigned by management.


Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • 5+ years of accounting experience, preferably in project accounting in Architecture & Engineering Consulting industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in managing project financials and compliance.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong knowledge of Excel and Word required.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience with accounting software, preferably Deltek Vantagepoint.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain a high level of integrity and adhere to ethical accounting practices.


Physical Requirements: (Minimum qualifications)


  • Prolonged periods sitting or standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to travel to various project sites.
  • Must be able to access and navigate job sites and construction areas.
