Job Summary

The Mathematics Department at Illinois State University is seeking applications for one tenure-track position in Statistics to begin August 16, 2025. Candidates will need to be able to teach a wide range of courses and show a strong commitment to quality teaching. Candidates in all areas of statistics and data science with outstanding research potential are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities. Duties include teaching statistics courses for major and general departmental programs, engaging in research, and completing relevant department service. Refereed research publications, quality teaching, professional involvement, and service are required for promotion and tenure.

Department and Programs:

The Mathematics Department has more than 30 tenure-track faculty and belongs to the College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers B.S and M.S. degrees in Mathematics and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education. The department is also the lead in the new interdisciplinary Data Science B.S. degree. The undergraduate program includes sequences in statistics, actuarial science, mathematics, and mathematics education. The master's program offers specializations in applied statistics, actuarial science, biomathematics, mathematics education, and pure mathematics. The department also provides numerous service and general education mathematics courses.

The department has diverse research groups in statistics, data science, actuarial sciences, algebra, biomathematics, discrete mathematics, and mathematics education. The Statistics, Data Science, and Pure and Applied Math groups convene regular research seminars, and the department frequently hosts regional research conferences. Salary & Rank

Rank is at the Assistant Professor level. Salary is competitive and depends on qualifications and experience.


Required Qualifications

1. Candidates must be ABD or have a conferred Ph.D. in Statistics or Data Science. Preference will be given to candidates who will have their degree by August 16, 2025.
2. Demonstrable oral proficiency in the English language is a requirement for the position.
