Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE) invites applications for a full-time Deployment Systems Administrator to join our IT team. As a member of the IT Infrastructure team, and working closely with the Desktop Management team, the Deployment Systems Administrator is responsible for fulfilling tasks related to servers, software, and user experience. The Deployment Systems Administrator will look for methods to innovate and improve efficiency with a focus on providing a reliable client computing environment for the university.

Essential Job Functions

  • Design desktop deployments and processes for Windows 11.
  • Microsoft Intune administration and troubleshooting.
  • Deploy standard software packaging including client and server aspects.
  • Troubleshoot and solve complex user issues and escalated service tickets and provide highest tier end user support.
  • Image design and programming work related to annual laptop program.
  • Verification of desktop hardware configuration to meet requirements.
  • Create, test, and troubleshoot standard deployment images.
  • Administration of client software updating and patch management.
  • Develop Group Policy configuration.
  • Coordinate and perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, installing hardware, etc.
  • Must be able to create and maintain accurate documentation for use by the IT department
  • Maintain and monitor Windows servers in a VMware virtual environment.
  • Drive technology and innovation and keep current with industry technology.


Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Solutions for management of non-standard devices such as Mac and mobile OS.
  • Ensures system and data security by using best practice configuration.
  • On-call availability as required.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required. Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred, or 1-3 years of experience with commensurate skillset.
  • Must be able to demonstrate hands-on experience in Windows system administration.
  • Experience providing desktop support and/or great customer service and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn technologies such as Azure, Office365, Entra ID, Group Policy, BitLocker, MDM, Intune, WSUS, Windows Deployment Services, VMWare ESXi.
  • Familiarity with desktop deployment and management technologies.
  • Familiarity with application deployment methods such as Software Center or Company Portal.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex problems. Ability to align technology solutions with university services to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Customer interactions must be handled with diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to communicate with team members and customers in appropriate technical or non-technical language.
  • Time oriented individual with proven ability to drive success.
  • Attention to detail and focus on reliability and performance.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as coding libraries, technical manuals, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before employees of the organization. Ability to communicate in both written and verbal form. Ability to create detailed technical documentation. Ability to read and write the English language.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to apply complex problem-solving techniques to a variety of situations.


Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is largely sedentary, the ability to move is required. The employee is occasionally required to traverse within their work area as well as other areas on campus. Ability to lift 35 lbs.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role uses standard office equipment, including but not limited to computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. Laptop repair laboratory with benches and inventory racks.
