Position Highlights The Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies (CAMI), at the University of Arizona is seeking a talented Principal Scientist with expertise and interest in advance cancer vaccines. CAMI will provide the successful candidate resources to advance a public-private partnership in the space of mRNA-based cancer vaccines. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of the principles and technologies in immunology and its applications to therapeutics and/or diagnostics. The successful candidate will lead a group of 1-3 research technicians to achieve defined and purposeful milestones en route to establishing CAMI as a regional hub for personalized mRNA vaccine design and synthesis. The successful candidates will be called on to provide leadership support, mentor junior lab members, and work independently in a fast-paced research environment. The position requires a diverse skill set, flexibility to perform research and leadership activities, and the ability to engage in team science. The candidate will interact with faculty across the U of A campuses.

This is a non-teaching position that emphasizes research, both academic and externally funded, and science team coordination.

The Center for Advanced Molecular and Immunological Therapies, or CAMI, will be a national biomedical research hub in Phoenix to unravel the complexities of the immunology of cancers, infectious diseases and autoimmune conditions. The goal is to develop novel strategies for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diseases. CAMI is located on the Phoenix Biomedical Core which embodies the University's priorities of engagement, partnership, innovation, and synergy in its world-class academic and research initiatives, with clinical facilities throughout Greater Phoenix.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop a research program in the advancement of immunological therapies.
  • Play a crucial role in all aspects of research development, implementation, and data analysis.
  • Design and execute rigorous experiments; analyze results critically.
  • Assist in writing grants and/or progress reports.
  • Initiate and coordinate strategic research partnerships with academia, federal laboratories, agencies, non-governmental organizations, and private sector companies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • In-depth knowledge of laboratory equipment and research protocols.
  • Self-motivated with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Should have outstanding organizational skills, ability to multi-task, and be able to work independently as well as within a team.
  • Proactive, resourceful, detail oriented and willing to learn.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and statistical software.
  • Demonstrated success in team management, in particular lab-based scientists.
  • Proven track record in project management.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR
  • Masters degree in immunology or a related field and 8 years experience; OR
  • Bachelor's degree in immunology or related field and 10 years experience.
  • Record of scientific achievement in the field of immunology.
  • Record in publishing own work and through collaborations.
  • Experience in training and mentoring junior scientists.
Preferred Qualifications

* Experience in immuno-oncology and CAR-T cell therapy development.

* Research experience focused on human transplant immunology.

* Past facilitation of technology transfer and commercialization among research teams.

* Prior experience in an industry environment.
