Compensation Grade: P27Compensation Details: Minimum: $102,003.00 - Maximum: $102,003.00 AnnuallyDepartment (OPH) WADS - Wadsworth CenterJob Description: Responsibilities The Research Scientist IV will be responsible for the oversight and management of the wastewater processing laboratories at the Wadsworth Center, including receipt, processing, extraction, distribution and archiving of incoming wastewater samples, staff supervision, and all associated documentation and quality assurance. The incumbent will communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with participating principal investigators and key senior partners in the NYS wastewater program, on their program needs, attend relevant meetings and perform other appropriate related duties. The incumbent will report directly to the Wadsworth Center's Director's Office and work closely with key senior staff in the NYS Department of Health's Wadsworth Center Divisions, Center for Environmental Health, and the Center for Community Health's Division of Epidemiology, to provide laboratory support for pathogen surveillance, outbreak investigations and participate in CDC sponsored programs. They will play a central role in supporting future expansions to the extensive NYS wastewater testing program, to include multiple additional areas of pathogen and biomarker detection and biochemical testing. The pursuit of applied research activities is a major emphasis and there are ample opportunities for internal pursuits as well as collaborative efforts with other programs and other institutions. This position will be part of a dynamic team serving the Wadsworth Center's mission in the New York State Department of Health's efforts to protect and promote the health of New York's citizens. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in a related field and five years of research experience; OR a Master's degree in a related field and four years of research experience; or a Doctorate in a related field and two years of research experience. Preferred Qualifications Doctoral degree in a related field and at least four years postdoctoral experience in a biological or microbiological laboratory, including experience with human pathogens, laboratory operational oversight, quality assurance programs, and demonstrated leadership. Demonstrated good communication skills and a history of successful collaborative projects. Demonstrated interest in investigating and developing new technologies and applied research. Conditions of Employment Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required. Exposure to potentially hazardous substances may be involved with this position. Therefore, the incumbent in this position may be required to wear personal protective clothing and equipment. This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
