The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Executive Director of Operations, the Senior Associate Director, Communications, is responsible for the overall strategy, execution, management, and success of internal and external communication for the Career Management Center (CMC). The successful candidate will work with the Executive Director of Operations to set goals and direction for the center's communications strategy.

Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Communications




  1. In collaboration with the Executive Director of Operations and Associate Dean of Career Management, creates a strategic communications and branding plan, including ongoing review of strategies for content, messaging, audiences, platforms.



  2. Ensures CBS and CMC mission and values are consistently interwoven throughout all forms of communications, including direct communication to stakeholders, newsletters, social media, events, and other channels of communications in support of the Career Management Center (CMC)'s strategic framework.



  3. Maintains consistent voice, style, and tone for all stakeholder communications and events, while adhering to core messaging. Works closely with Columbia Business School's Marketing & Communications team to align with the wider organization's communications goals. Serves as communications representative on school-wide working groups.




Content Creation & Management




  1. Oversees the production, writing, and editing of all department communications, media, and brand assets, including newsletters, pamphlets, flyers, executive communications, letters, announcements, and other materials. Ensure editorial consistency, timely distribution, and incorporation of feedback from multiple stakeholders while maintaining close attention to detail.



  2. Works with Columbia IT and other partners to manage and deploy digital communications. Identifies opportunities to use new tools and platforms to enhance digital engagement for communications.




Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building




  1. Collaborates with the Employer Relations team to develop, grow, and maintain relationships with alumni, as well as existing and prospective employers. Creates tailored communications and event programming.



  2. Promotes the Career Management Center through social media accounts, proposing and developing content, tracking analytics and engagement, and engaging with other University accounts.




Additional Responsibilities




  1. Mentors, coaches, and develops the Manager, Multimedia Design in the execution of all communication deliverables and delivery of media content. Ensures the successful production of high-quality assets and support the Manager's professional development.




Minimum Qualifications




  • Bachelor's degree required. Minimum 4-6 years related experience required.



  • Demonstrated success leading digital elements of campaigns and initiatives, including website content, social media, and email management.



  • Experience leading and building diverse teams, including recruitment, mentoring, coaching, and supervising the day-to-day operations.



  • Experience overseeing design strategy and collaborating with graphic designers.



  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and to work with diverse teams.



  • Familiarity with email publication platforms, website design, annual reports, and presentation software.



  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask, meet tight deadlines, and work independently.



  • Ability to work as part of a team and interact effectively with students, alumni, faculty, and administrators.




Preferred Qualifications



  • Master's degree desirable. Experience in a higher education setting a plus, but not required. Ability or demonstrated interest in learning new software and adopting new capabilities; growing as the communications landscape grows.
