THE POSITION


Washington County Public Health Division within Health and Human Services (HHS) Department is seeking a motivated, collaborative, and skilled Public Health Nursing Supervisor to join our Communicable Disease (CD) team!

This position is full-time limited duration with a tentative end date of December 31, 2026.

The Public Health Nursing Supervisor will join a team committed to evidence-based, equity-focused work to prevent and control communicable diseases in our community. Under the supervision of the CD Program Supervisor, this position will manage clinical program logistics, implement and monitor Washington County HHS/Public Health policies and procedures for nurses, provide services, select/supervise staff, coordinate staff and colleagues to build a team environment.
The CD program currently includes two epidemiologists, six nurses, and a senior program coordinator. This position is responsible for supervision of the clinical staff only.

Primary duties may include, but are not limited to:
  • Establish schedules and coordinate nursing activities.
  • Implement policies and procedures.
  • Seek technical assistance and collaborate with Health Officer and colleagues to update program policies or procedures related to communicable diseases, particularly clinical considerations.
  • Update clinical protocols and standing orders as delegated, mentor staff, and provide trainings.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work schedule.

  • Organize and supervise a communicable disease nursing program within local government.
  • Supervise nurses and provide clinical guidance; recruit and train clinical staff.
  • Coordinate work with appropriate agencies and educational institutions and work collaboratively across roles and sectors.
  • Adapt to and manage changes and engage in collaborative problem-solving.
  • Implement culturally responsive, trauma-informed care and resiliency practices.
  • Perform a variety of technical tasks relative to preventing and controlling communicable diseases.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited school of nursing, and from a school approved for community health nursing preferred; AND Two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience in community health nursing, nursing supervision, or program coordination.

ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of a current license to practice as a registered nurse in the State of Oregon at time of appointment.

Selection Process
  1. Apply today! In addition to a resume, we ask that you complete and submit an online application, which will be used to screen for minimum qualifications (MQs) and to determine starting pay in accordance with the provision of the Oregon Equal Pay Law.
  2. MQ Review: Human Resources will screen applications for MQs beginning the week after the posting closes. Depending on the number of applications received, we may conduct additional screening based on the preferred qualifications.
  3. Subject Matter Expert Review: Your responses to the supplemental questions will be evaluated and scored by a panel of subject matter experts. Your total score for this examination will affect your placement on the eligible list (a list of candidates eligible for interviews). This process could take about 2 weeks.
  4. Panel Interview(s): Generally, the top 6 - 8 candidates will be invited to participate in a panel interview.
  5. Conditional Offer: The final candidate requires to successfully pass the background check and driving record check as conditions of employment.
