THE POSITION

Washington County's Department of Land Use and Transportation is recruiting for an Engineering Technician III (ET III) in The Capital Project Services Division (CPS).

The Position
This position is the highest level class within the Engineering Technician series and performs highly complex technical assignments. The CPS Division is responsible for multi-million dollar transportation improvement projects. The Engineering Technician III is a lead inspection person responsible for tasks related to the construction of transportation facilities, examples of duties include but are not limited to:
  • Road and bridge construction project inspection
  • Inspection for traffic signal installation
  • Inspection of underground utilities work
  • Review of plans and specifications
  • Tracking and calculating quantities on construction projects, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications, and conducting site investigations
  • Responding to citizen concerns
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will possess confidence to be the lead field technician on County capital transportation construction projects. They will have knowledge in various aspects of major road construction, bridges, complex retaining walls, traffic signal installation, and underground utility installations. They will also able be to read, understand and interpret complex construction plans, specifications and other contract documents.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:
* Four (4) years of increasingly responsible experience in road construction, inspection, or civil or traffic engineering; OR
* An Associate's Degree in civil engineering or related field; AND two (2) years of responsible experience in road construction, road construction inspection, construction management, civil engineering, traffic engineering, or surveying.

ADDITIONAL LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, PHYSICAL ABILITIES AND SPECIALTY REQUIREMENTS

  • Some positions may require the possession of or the ability to obtain the Oregon Department of Transportation General Construction Inspector Certification within one (1) year of appointment.
