About the Job

Starting pay is $22 per hour, depending on qualifications.

University Youth & Community Programs has been offering unique and high quality summer camps to youth, ages 5-17, for over 35 years. Instruction in a variety of specialty topics is combined with a well-rounded recreation program that features the resources and facilities of the Twin Cities Campus. A convenient location and extended daytime hours add to the popularity. Youth attend one or more weeks throughout the summer. Age appropriate groups are kept to a small, 1:8 ratio of adults to youth for a fun summer experience for all. The Art Instructor is responsible for planning and executing high quality, introductory themed art activities for select participants. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Planning and executing age-appropriate, themed art lessons
  • Summer camp instruction (2.5 hours per day for 5 days a week)
  • Ages 6-15, divided into appropriate groups such as 6-8, 9-11 & 12-15
  • Group size of 10-16 children
    • Set up and take down of program area daily
    • Activity plans and supply requests submitted in advance
    • Working within the budget limits with a priority on efficiency
  • Inventory and preparation of art and craft supplies for all camp activities
  • Creating and maintain an accepting, fun and safe environment for all camp participants
  • Involving the Youth Programs Group Leaders, chaperones or other staff to assist with the activities
  • Fostering continuity and routines for participants
  • Working with Youth Programs camp staff for consistent discipline, organization, and carrying out programs policies
  • Maintaining open communication with the Leadership staff
Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training, experience, or a degree in Art.
  • Experience leading activities with small groups of youth, ages 6-15.
  • Positive attitude and energy.
  • High level of independence and responsibility.
  • Creativity and flexibility.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Available to work 1-3 weeks, Monday through Friday, during the camp dates: June 9 - August 15, 2025 (No camps week of June 30 - July 4)
  • Completion of all required training prior to camp start date.
  • Must pass a criminal background check.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Training or a degree in Education and/or Child Development.
  • Experience teaching art activities to groups of children ages 6-15.
  • Experience providing training or leadership to peers or other adults.
  • CPR & First Aid Certified
