Lubbock Safety Officer - Hazardous Waste 39030BR Environmental Health and Safety Position Description Performs complex safety and health program work. Work involves developing safety policies and procedures; participating in the safety training and education of staff; inspecting work areas and activities for hazards; and investigating accidents. May train others. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. About the Department and/or College The Department of Environmental Health & Safety seeks to provide a safe and healthy place of employment and learning and to cultivate positive attitudes towards safety, security and preparedness through the establishment and implementation of occupational and environmental protection programs for the University. Major/Essential Functions
Required Qualifications Graduation from high school; five years of safety related / research laboratory work experience OR Associate Degree in Environmental Science or related fields, three years safety related / research laboratory work experience OR Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, biology, or industrial hygiene, one year of safety related / research laboratory work experience. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to plan and evaluate safety and health programs. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
