Position: Bell Labs Robotics Co-Op Number of Position(s): 4 Duration: 4 Months Date: Jan 13th to May 23rd, 2025 Location: Onsite/Hybrid Education Recommendations Currently a candidate for a Master's degree or diploma in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with an accredited school in the US. You will be doing cutting-edge and exciting work in a passionate, cross-disciplinary, and collaborative team. You will build your ideas from the drawing board and drive towards bringing them to the final product by building prototypes. Candidates with a passion for and skills related to the perception, planning, and control of drones and/or robots are invited to apply. As part of our team, you will: Implement large-scale distributed and networked software systems. Invent and implement new robotic algorithms and integrate them with the existing code base. Design, develop, deploy, and maintain network and server infrastructure for Industry 4.0 machine control. Create technologies with the potential of becoming a future business for the company. What you'll do: Solve complex problems: Push the boundaries of indoor autonomous robotics by developing advanced solutions in areas like robot communication, and localization (RF, Acoustic, and Camera-based), and explore methods for improving energy efficiency AI systems. Build the future: Bring your ideas to life by designing, prototyping, and implementing cutting-edge robotic algorithms and software systems. Shape the industry: Contribute to the development of network and server infrastructure for Industry 4.0 machine control, creating technologies with the potential to become future business ventures for Nokia. While software is a predominant aspect of the system we are building, the candidate must be a versatile person that understands the hardware concepts (electronics and mechanics) relevant for robotics and can perform hands-on work in that area when needed. Good understanding of relevant mathematical concepts is an absolute must. You have: Software Expertise: Proven experience in software development, including: Strong knowledge of networking, system software, operating systems, and distributed systems. Proficiency in Python, C/C++, shell scripting, and Git. Full-Stack Development: Ability to develop and debug systems across all layers of hardware and software. Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English. Problem-Solving: Comfort working in ambiguous situations and embracing innovation and risk-taking. It would be nice if you also had: (from previous employment or academic research) Networking: Deep understanding of networking principles and technologies. Distributed Systems: Experience designing and implementing distributed systems. Robot Control: Experience with robot control algorithms and techniques. Navigation and Localization: Experience with robot navigation and localization algorithms. Computer Vision: Experience with computer vision techniques and algorithms.
