Primary Purpose of Department
The Department of Business Information Systems and Operations Management ( BISOM) is one of six departments in the Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. UNC Charlotte is North Carolina's urban research university and has the 3rd largest enrollment among the UNC System schools. The Belk College's part-time MBA program is ranked top 50 in the country. Since establishing the School of Data Science in 2020, Data Science and Business Analytics are major programmatic priorities for the university. Faculty members in the Belk College and its departments, including BISOM, participate in the School of Data Science and the various programs it offers. The BISOM department (https://belkcollege.charlotte.edu/departments/bisom/) is an active participant in the Data Science and Business Analytics ( DSBA) graduate program and the MBA. Undergraduate programs in MIS, Operations & Supply Chain Management, and Business Analytics are offered by the department. The faculty in the department has an excellent track record of publishing in leading academic journals and excellence in teaching.

Description of Work

Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of her/his academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member's discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Belk College of Business at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte invites applications for a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Information Systems in the department of BISOM. The successful candidate for this position will engage in high quality research, teach at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and participate in departmental governance and service activities. Candidates will be expected to develop a research record of publication in top tier journals and a track record of teaching excellence.

The teaching load is highly competitive and will include courses in the interdisciplinary program in Data Science and Business Analytics, as well as traditional undergraduate and graduate courses within the Business College.

Service to University, the Public, and the Profession - all tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.
Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
The position requires a doctorate in data science and business analytics, information systems, or closely related field. All degree requirements are expected to be completed by the time of appointment. Applicants must have research and teaching interests in business analytics. Candidates should have begun to establish a record of excellence in both research and teaching, or show evidence of this potential. Candidates will be expected to develop a research record of publication in top tier journals and a track record of teaching excellence.

The teaching load is highly competitive and will include courses in the interdisciplinary program in Data Science and Business Analytics as well as traditional undergraduate and graduate courses within the Business College. Prior teaching experience in business analytics is preferred.

This is a tenure track position with a competitive salary.
