The department also offers a Master of Science (MS) degree in Computer Science and a Computer Science track within the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree offered by the college. |

Description of Work |

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Non-Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate teaching goals. Teaching - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, and grading student work. |
Essential Duties and Responsibilities |
This position will be expected to teach courses in related areas at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentoring/advising students, develop new curriculum and courses, practice education innovation, contribute to diversity improvements, and engage students in extra-curricular and undergraduate/graduate research activities.
In addition, this position involves the design, delivery, and coordination of Prospect for Success / orientation courses for first time-in-college and transfer students, aimed at supporting their transition to university life and fostering academic and personal success. A successful candidate in this position is also expected to teach courses that emphasize critical thinking, communication, and ethics related to computing and help students develop these essential skills as they apply to the computing discipline, preparing them to navigate both academic challenges and real-world ethical dilemmas |
Minimum Experience/Education |
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. |
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience |
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Computer Science or related fields: Educational Leadership, Higher Education Administration and Student Affairs and a strong commitment to teaching and education innovation.
Prior experience teaching orientation courses designed for first-time-in-college and transfer students, with a focus on helping students transition smoothly into university life. Understanding of the unique academic, social, and emotional challenges that first-time-in-college and transfer students face during their first year of college, with demonstrated success in addressing those needs through targeted course content.
Experience teaching or developing curricula that incorporate critical thinking, communication, and ethics, especially within a computing context.
Experience providing advising or mentoring to new students, helping them navigate degree requirements, and supporting their personal and academic growth.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and student services to create a supportive and engaging learning environment that fosters ethical awareness and professional competencies.
Familiarity with using student feedback and data to assess and enhance the effectiveness of courses.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively engage with students, faculty, and staff. |
