Position Summary Information


Primary Purpose
Responsible for higher level technical support to the University community including design, setup, configuration, troubleshooting and upgrading technology. Generates documentation on how to utilize the systems, provides written technical resolutions in a central knowledge base and assists in the development of technical standards for learning technologies. In addition to support of daily operations, this position includes a significant amount of vendor and customer interaction in the evaluation, technical design and implementation of projects that advance the state of digital media technology at the University.
Essential Functions

  • Explores, identifies, evaluates, enables, and promotes existing and emerging digital media, surveillance, and instructional technologies and their application.
  • Design, install, program, configure and maintain new or existing technology systems and services for a diverse customer base within the University community.
  • Serves as a senior level technical support to the distributed and central technical service providers.
  • Performs high-level technical analysis for projects for integration of digital media technologies.
  • Advise, consult, and provide services in the design, creation, and delivery of digital media technologies.
  • Provides high level of customer service and satisfaction to the University community in resolving complex issues with a broad range of technology systems.
  • Coordinates single/multiple vendor interactions on projects.
  • Effectively communicates project expectations to team members, stakeholders in a clear and timely fashion.
  • Serve as project technical lead through:

    • Planning and scheduling project timelines and milestones.
    • Estimating the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals.
    • Developing and delivering progress reports, proposals, requirement documentation, technical training sessions, and presentations.
    • Conducting project post mortems and creating recommendation reports in order to identify key project elements and improve future projects.



  • Produce and continue improvement of audiovisual design documents including: audio and video components, wiring schematics, and renderings.
  • Design, integrate, maintain and program the latest control processors, servers, and peripheral devices.
  • Read architectural plans.
  • Prepare proposals and designs for audiovisual system integrations and installations.
  • Deliver customer and IT partner Digital Media technology end-user/administrator training.
  • Deliver projects on time, and on budget.
  • Contributing to design review and code review as required.
  • Log support requests and issues reported into a central database and maintain their updates.
  • Generate reports and analyze trends in issues and contribute to the design and implementation of permanent resolution to issues.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma and 60+ credit hours of continuing education.
  • Five (5) years of overall audiovisual commercial integration experience as hands on A/V installer, design engineer, systems engineer and/or programmer.
  • Three (3) years of medium scale control system programming and audio DSP programming experience.
  • Three (3) years of medium scale AV design and system integration experience.
  • Three (3) years of medium scale AV project coordination experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in IT, Electronics or Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Certified Infocomm CTS.
  • Crestron Programmer.

  • DSP Programmer.
  • Ability to provide hands-on support and troubleshoot digital media technology systems.
  • Ability to comfortably discuss computing topics with varying levels of personnel from student to senior management.
  • Ability to provide solutions to integrate various disparate systems in a single service offering using existing knowledge and research.
  • Solid written communication skills with the ability to write technical documentation or manuals.
  • Ability to manage projects and be familiar with project management concepts.
  • Adept at reading and interpreting technical documentation and procedure manuals.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of the organization's goals and objectives.
  • Ability to conduct research into emerging technology issues and products.
  • Experience in AV server and AV network infrastructure design, deployment and management.
  • A proven track record in control processor, video surveillance and audio digital signal processor (DSP) engineering, installation, programming and commissioning.
  • Experience with structural and MEP design concepts.
  • Understanding of electronics and electrical principles (Ohms Law, Power Law, Parallel and Series Circuits, electrical symbols).
  • Thorough understanding of server hardware and data center operations.
  • Experience in Virtualized server infrastructure.
  • Familiar with traditional programming and scripting languages.
  • Ability to write a scope of work and finalize a system deployment and build-out.
  • Exceptional communication skills including interacting regularly with Architects, Designers and other Trades.
  • Ability to maintain a professional and positive attitude in a fast-paced creative environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Detail oriented, have multi-tasking abilities and handle tight, high stress deadlines.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented collaborative environment.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Duties require constant sitting and repetitive hand and wrist motion while using computer keyboard and phone. Occasional walking, standing and simple grasping. Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Primarily office setting, AV closets and /or data center with exposure to noise and cooler temperatures. Work performed during standard business hours, 8:00AM-5PM, occasional overtime and hours worked outside of normal schedule may be required to meet business deadlines. Travel may be required to other campuses, meetings or training.

Valid driver's license required. Incumbent must also be able to meet the University's fleet rules and be eligible to drive for University business. The University's insurance carrier reserves the right to exclude applicants based on their driving record.
Hiring Range $34.42-$47.33 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
