Quality Engineer The following describes in general terms the purpose and scope of the position. Work with DCO cross functional Teams and DCO suppliers to drive improvements in cost, quality, and delivery within the DCO supplier base. * Work with suppliers for continuous improvement in technology, quality, quality control, delivery and cost to meet highest standard DCO and end customer requirements and expectations. * Will be responsible for the management of all supplier quality programs, including supplier audit program (in conjunction with compliance) and certification, supplier risk assessment and mitigation, on-going supplier monitoring and reporting, etc. * In conjunction with respective Ducommun manufacturing and quality teams, lead supplier quality escape root cause and corrective actions with supplier by applying DCO CAB process. * Assume responsibility for Supplier COPQ records and chargebacks by working with the supply chain management team. * Lead supplier development and qualification - manufacturing process control, engineering capability, capacity confirmation & certification; support commodity strategy development and execution. * Lead supplier prototype sample and first mass production qualification and approval (First Article) according to DCO Q-codes. * Work with suppliers on Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) as required. * Participate in new program and production development. Review drawings, specifications, customer PO's and other related documents for inspection requirements to flow to suppliers. Work with supplier for DFMEA and PFMEA requirement and capability. * Lead supplier audits to ensure compliance with ISO, AS, NADCAP and other key regulatory standards. * Conduct periodic and detailed quality system and cost structure reviews at selected suppliers. * Work closely with the Supply Chain, Product Integrity and Manufacturing teams in the development of key processes to enhance supplier communication and understanding of Ducommun business practices. * Provide supply base training as needed to support improvement activities in the areas of statistical methods, assessment tool methodology, defect mapping, lean manufacturing and 5S methodology. * Participate in supplier monthly metrics/scorecard reviews and supplier improvement actions. * Support cost reduction and productivity improvement efforts, including in-sourcing projects. Work Environment and Safety Equipment Required: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job: * Must have good finger dexterity - computer data entry. * Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust and focus. * Must be able to communicate effectively. * Frequently required to stand; walk; sit; reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls. * Occasionally required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. * Must be able to occasionally move and/or lift from 1 - 50 pounds * Working conditions are: 75% office environment, 25% manufacturing environment. * Noise level is moderate in office environment. * Travel Required up to 25%. * Hearing/foot protection must be worn in designated manufacturing areas. * Safety glasses required in all manufacturing areas. Skills & Qualifications Required Skills & Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential requirements of this job: * Broad knowledge of various quality management tools, including but not limited to SPC and Six- Sigma principles. * Excellent technical, verbal, and written communication skills. * Strong analytical skills * Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines * Demonstrated hands-on approach and an ability to build and maintain strong effective business relationships in a team-based environment. * Intermediate level of computer skills in email, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access. * Leadership skills, people management, meeting facilitation and customer support. * Ability to multi-task efficiently and adapt within a rapidly changing environment. * Flexible with high energy, able to handle multiple tasks smoothly. * Very organized, detail-oriented, with attention to accuracy. Required Experience/Education/Training/Certifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must possess the outlined experience level, education, training, minimum years of experience, product or industry knowledge plus any certifications in order to be considered. * BA/BS/BE in Engineering * Minimum 2 years' experience in a mechanical manufacturing environment. * 5+ years direct experience in supplier quality, supply chain quality management, and/or manufacturing quality engineering in driving proactive supply and quality activities in improving on-time delivery, quality performance, and successful implementation of systemic root cause corrective actions * Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision to meet deadlines * Understanding of manufacturing processes and quality systems including supplier performance. * Demonstrated background in supply base performance improvement. * Working knowledge of SPC, TQM, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, in one or more recognized Quality Management System standards (ISO 9001, AS 9100, ISO 13485, TS 16949, TL 9100). * Working knowledge in the development and deployment of lean manufacturing practices to include value stream mapping, 5S, Kaizen (CIP) activity and waste reduction. Licenses, Certifications, etc. * ASQ Certified Green Belt/Black Belt or equivalent recognized certification is preferred * ASQ Certified Quality Auditor is preferred 1505 Maiden Lane |
