Job Summary

Develops risk management procedures, business continuance scenarios, contingency and disaster recovery plans for the Division of IT. This role is more than a highly technical resource; although it has no direct reports, the focus is on management of processes and procedures involving all aspects of technology service delivery related to business continuity and disaster recovery with high strategic importance to the University campus having university-wide impact. Assists for the planning, managing and completion of projects for the Division of Information Technology (IT) involving a wide variety of technologies and functional areas.

  • Performs all disaster recovery planning for the Division of IT.
  • Maintains Division of IT emergency response procedures including being a resource in directing emergency response during emergency situations.
  • Works with customers and functional areas to gather requirements and develop project management plans.
  • Develops and communicates meeting minutes, presentations,
  • status reports and other project related documentation.
  • Identifies, tracks, monitors and communicates project-related issues, changes and variances during implementation of IT projects.
  • Conducts periodic and annual disaster recovery tests and desktop exercises. Tests plans with various operational and support groups in IT.
  • Review and evaluate the lessons learned from the tests, exercise, and incidents, and recommend and document improvements.
  • Conduct root cause analysis meetings for incidents and outages. Document mitigations and improvements.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations regarding critical points of
  • failure.
  • Develops and implements policies, guidelines and procedures for business continuance and disaster recovery plans.
  • Works with IT Managers to review the continuity of operations plans and is responsible for making sure plans are updated annually.
  • Collaborate with IT teams, academic departments, and administrative units to identify critical systems and functions that require continuity planning.
  • Ensures monitoring and testing of business continuance procedures; ensures response to system failures and is proactive in building processes to minimize/ eliminate downtime.
  • Develops service level risk management agreements with the business and with vendor to ensure service level agreement meet business continuance and disaster recovery planning requirements.
  • Conducts disaster recovery training.
  • Assists in disaster recovery support. Provides support in the event of an incident or disruption of service and facilitate in the restoration of the service.
  • Stays updated on emerging threats and technologies to continuously improve disaster recovery capabilities.
  • Performs essential duties during any emergencies, such as hurricanes, storms and/or any other University emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during University emergency closings with appropriate notification by department administrator.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field with four (4) years of experience in disaster recovery/business resumption planning and/or related field.
Desired Qualifications

  • Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) designation or equivalent highly desired.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification desired.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of current disaster recovery planning techniques and technologies required.
