Position Summary The University of New Mexico-Los Alamos (UNM-LA) invites applications for a full-time, 9-month, Lecturer II or III faculty appointment in Chemistry. Full-time faculty at UNM-LA are required to teach, engage in service, and engage in professional development activities in accordance with the established workload policies. The teaching load will regularly be comprised of courses in chemistry, such as Chemistry in Our Community lecture and lab, Introduction to Chemistry for nonmajors lecture and lab, and General Chemistry I and II for STEM majors lecture and lab. Opportunities exist for reassigned time in accordance with the needs of the department and campus. Faculty may have the opportunity to develop courses in the faculty member's specific areas of expertise and interest. Full-time faculty members teach assigned day, evening, and weekend classes, in various modalities, in accordance with established guidelines and policies, as well as participate in student advising, faculty governance committees, other academic and institutional support activities, and supervisory responsibilities as assigned. All faculty members are expected to remain current in teaching best practices and transformational pedagogy, and to adhere to accepted standards for professionals in education. Additional responsibilities may include oversight of chemical safety on campus, supervision of internships, participating in curriculum development, training and mentoring adjunct faculty, attending forums and meetings, participating in initiatives related to undergraduate research, grant-writing, and serving on additional department and college committees and boards as requested. Final offer is contingent upon the applicant residing in Northern New Mexico and having the ability to be on campus in Los Alamos at least three times per week. Appointment begins August 11, 2025. SALARY: Starting salary is commensurate with degrees and experience. Contingent on funding availability, starting base salary for 1.0 FTE is $56,400 for a 9-month faculty position. Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Master's degree in Chemistry or subfield by application date (2) Experience teaching chemistry lecture and laboratory courses at a post-secondary institution (3) US permanent resident or citizen PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or subfield by application date (2) At least 2 years of community college teaching experience in face-to-face and online modalities (3) Familiarity with chemical safety protocols and knowledge of New Mexico regulations pertaining to chemical safety in academic laboratories (4) A demonstrated commitment to collaborations and to university and professional service (5) A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities Application Instructions Only applications submitted through To help the committee understand how you will contribute to our efforts to build a more equitable and inclusive learning and working environment, submit a diversity statement that: (1)Describes the ways you integrate equity, inclusion or accessibility into your teaching, research and service spaces.
