What you'll do:

As the Sourcing Agent for Royal Truck Body (A Shyft Group Brand) based at our manufacturing facility in Carson, CA, you will enjoy spearheading the sourcing of production materials to deliver optimal value to the business. You will accomplish this through fostering strong relationships with suppliers, serving as a valued business partner to counsel and guide the business, and helping drive continuous improvement.

Additionally, you will be accountable for identifying and mitigating potential supply chain risks and for secondary sourcing activities to ensure there are no disruptions to production.

You will also:

  • Manage relationships with suppliers, including negotiating terms, implementing Long-Term Supplier Agreements (LTAs), and ensuring conformity to company terms and conditions
  • Monitor supplier performance metrics and facilitate solutions for supply issues
  • Conduct periodic supplier facility visits for quality, delivery, pricing, or audits
  • Source and vet new suppliers, including setup in Sage ERP system
  • Process and manage Purchase Orders from material requisitions and sales orders
  • Review and close out Open Purchase Orders monthly, managing backorders and expediting as needed
  • Work with Materials Manager to ensure timely delivery of materials
  • Analyze manufacturing data to adjust material purchases based on business fluctuations
  • Ensure material purchases align with min/max and appropriate 'Days on Hand' inventory
  • Participate in semi-annual inventory counts and accurate pricing
  • Manage and create purchasing/inventory reports using Sage ERP
  • Coordinate 'Buyouts' to arrive within 1-2 weeks of chassis delivery
  • Ensure large ticket buyouts (cranes, compressors, liftgates) are compatible with chassis/truck bodies
  • Attend daily 'War Room' meetings to report potential production impacts
  • Support achievement of manufacturing production goals
  • Work with supervisors to maintain 2-4-week supply through requisitions
  • Understand manufacturing processes, Bills of Materials (BoMs), and supplier costs for fair pricing
  • Track and communicate Purchase Price Variances (PPV) from budget/forecasted costs
  • Identify offset/mitigation actions for cost variances
  • Support Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) initiatives
  • Communicate lead-time changes to Sales and Production for On-Time Delivery (OTD) improvement
  • Support all Royal Truck Body branches and installation centers throughout the U.S.
  • Stay informed of industry and global market trends, leveraging information for company benefit
  • Identify and help transform business processes as a champion for change
  • Support special projects and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Obtain new purchase part numbers for Sage ERP system
  • Maintain effective communication with internal/external customers, vendors, and management

What you need to be successful:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Materials Management, Finance, Engineering, or Operations, OR equivalent combination of procurement expertise a manufacturing setting in lieu of a degree
  • Five or more (5+) years of manufacturing procurement experience
  • Ability to perform cost analysis and negotiate fairly and effectively
  • A reputation for being consistently attentive to detail
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office 365, particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • The ability and willingness to maintain a flexible work schedule to accomplish goals
  • Ability to travel 10-15%, sometimes internationally

What makes you stand out

  • Familiarity with a variety of manufacturing processes and commodities
  • Experience in specialty vehicle manufacturing (Truck, Bus, Agriculture, Construction, etc.)
  • Versed in sourcing products overseas (globally)
  • Bilingual in English and Mandarin or Spanish
  • Knowledge of utilizing SAGE for purchase order management
