Position Summary

Join an Office of Admissions team that is enthusiastic about promoting access to higher education by supporting prospective and incoming Metropolitan State University of Denver Roadrunners. The Admissions Counselor is a member of the recruitment team within the Office of Admissions and contributes to the MSU Denver Mission to provide a high-quality, accessible, enriching education that prepares students for successful careers, post-graduate education and lifelong learning in a multicultural, global and technological society.

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Admission-High School Outreach, this position shares broad recruitment and enrollment responsibilities with other members of the Office of Admissions. This position is a key player in the recruitment and outreach efforts of the university and provides counseling to prospective students, applicants, and admitted students to assist the university in meeting enrollment goals.

Duties/Responsibilities

40% - Recruitment & Outreach

  • Represents MSU Denver at off-campus recruitment opportunities including college fairs, workshops, and community events.
  • Manages a local and national recruitment territory by maintaining a regular visitation schedule to high schools in assigned regions.
  • Conducts directed follow-up activities and communications for targeted prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students via email, mail, phone, text, and CRM system.
  • Assists with execution of on-campus recruitment related events such as campus visits, group tours and bi-institutional events, and open houses. This can entail presenting to large audiences and providing general support for the events.
  • Helps develop communication plans for prospective students, applicants, and new admits.

40% - Counseling

  • Provides admissions counseling and academic planning advice to prospective students, applicants, and newly admitted students via email, telephone, video conferencing, text, mail, and direct in-office communication.
  • Facilitates application and admission of students by working closely with a variety of MSU Denver student services programs and academic offices.
  • Exercises professional judgment to interpret University policies to advise prospective and new students about admission procedures, transfer of credits, University policies, the financial aid processes, scholarships, program requirements, registration, tuition classification, and available student support services.

10% - Application Review

  • Serves on the application review committee which reads and evaluates completed application files and determines admission decisions.

10% - Additional Duties

  • Represents the Office of Admissions on internal and external committees and organizations related to the recruitment and admission of students.
  • Upholds and interprets the standards of ethical practice in University admissions to assist with broad recruitment activities. Assists in the preparation of surveys and questionnaires distributed by the Office of Admissions to determine the effectiveness of our programs and services.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of 1-year experience working in higher education, secondary education, or student engagement organization (student employment may satisfy this requirement)
  • Strong written communication skills
  • A valid driver's license and dependable transportation, due to required frequent travel for recruiting activities.
  • Bachelor's degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in higher education, counseling or related field
  • Experience working in admissions, advising or enrollment services in a higher education setting, or post-graduate college counseling
  • Experience working with a diverse, multicultural student population
  • Experience using a Student Information System database or Customer Relationship Management system.
  • Experience giving presentations to large groups
  • Experience providing high quality customer service through face-to-face interactions with clients, customers, or students
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (speaking and writing)

Work Hours

  • Full-time, 40 hours per week, Exempt
  • Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Extensive weekend and evening work is required during the fall and spring semesters.
  • Hybrid schedule (on-campus and remote) available for this position
  • <10% Overnight travel.

Salary for Announcement

The minimum of the pay range for this position is $40,000. We anticipate the qualified candidate to be placed between $47,300 - $48,100. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, internal equity, experience, education, specialty and training. Additionally, Student Affairs has committed to tying our salaries to an understanding of a living wage. To that end, we will not pay less than $47,300.

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
