As a DSE AI & Analytics intern, you will work closely with multi-disciplinary teams at accelerating the value of data science and AI across. You will contribute to the design, development and deployment of structured, high-quality AI solutions, in particular Large Language Model (LLM) based solutions. You will also work at democratizing data science by developing solutions that can be adopted in larger scale byfunctions and teams with unmet data analytics needs with a focus on business impact. These solutions will be leveraged across the PD organization to help our teams fulfill our mission: to do now what patients need next.

This internship position is located in South San Francisco and is an on-site position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with data scientists and cross functional teams to solve complex problems and help create unique solutions by using modern NLP technologies including LLMs

  • Contribute to the build of data pipelines for ML models.

  • Development and evaluation of ML models according to business and functional requirements.

  • Document and communicate the design and implementation details.

Program Highlights

  • Intensive 12-weeks (possibly being extended to 6 months), full time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

  • Program start dates are January 6th or January 13th.

  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

  • Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

  • Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.

Who You Are:

Required Education

You meet one of the following criteria:

  • Must have attained a Bachelor's degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a grad program).

  • Must be pursuing a Master's degree (enrolled).

  • Must have attained a Master's degree no more than 2 years ago.

  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled).

Required Majors

Computer Science, Statistics, Computational Biology or related fields.

Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Coding

  • Experience with Machine Learning (ML) algorithm development and evaluation. Familiarity with Deep Learning (DL) and DL frameworks e.g. pytorch, tensorflow.

  • NLP and LLM experience using langchain or other frameworks for building LLM based applications

  • Working experience with revision control systems e.g. git.

Data science

  • Talent and taste for quality data preparation with a data first mindset

  • Ability to build powerful advanced visualizations for trend analytics and new insights

Soft skills

  • Team player and good interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with team members and virtual teams from different locations and different cultural backgrounds.

  • Curious and eager to engage and learn about various business needs across the organization

  • Self-learner attitude with software solutions and technologies

Required skills

  • Outstanding problem-solving skills.

  • Solid programming skills in Python.

Other Preferred Qualifications

  • Development of LLM based agentic workflows

  • High performance computing cluster experience.

  • Experience with clinical study data.

  • Use of data science/AI platforms

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $45.00 - $50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
