I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Under the direction of the Patient Transportation Director and Supervisors, monitors the computerized dispatch system (TDSS); performs manual dispatch as required. Assumes dispatching duties on the Memorial and University campuses as needed. Coordinates departmental responsibilities with staff on daily basis.
2. Monitors and performs diagnostic and corrective action for both the Swisslog computerized tube system and TDSS dispatch system. Manually assigns jobs to Patient and Equipment Transporter staff as needed. Assists in daily operation of Mailroom. Coordinates daily Patient Transport and/or Mailroom standard and/or prescheduled activities. Assists Director/ Supervisor in administration of staff management and education functions
3. Distributes and monitors the flow of work for the Transport Staff. Provides training and technical assistance to employees within the assigned work area. Assists supervisor in assuring that assigned employees are provided with appropriate resources, materials, and methods. Provides recommendations to supervisor for the most efficient utilization of assigned personnel. Relays work instruction from the supervisor.
4. Monitors staff schedule, maintains daily worksheets and maintains departmental forms inventory. Provides input toward the development of patient transport and mailroom policy and procedure. Initiates requisitions for supplies as needed. Oversees condition of staff uniforms, ordering replacement pieces as needed; orders uniforms for new employees
5. Monitors computerized tube system (Memorial campus, only). Investigates and corrects any problems via computer terminal. Notifies Director/ Supervisor and/or the Maintenance Department of tube system problems as necessary.

II. Position Qualifications:

License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. Requires High School or equivalent education plus reading and writing skills.
2. BLS certification is required.

Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Over one year up to and including three years experience preferred as a Patient and Equipment Transporter and/or as a Patient Transportation Dispatcher in medium to large hospital setting is required.
