Job Description
Albany Engineered Composites (AEC) is one of the most technically advanced designers and manufacturers of lightweight composite aerospace structures, subassemblies and components. For more than 50 years, AEC has innovated advanced composite solutions for defense and commercial industries in applications from large commercial transports to fighter jets and commercial and military rotorcraft.
Our composite design and fabrication expertise can be found on many defense programs. AEC provides a wide range of products including complete structural assemblies, flight critical components, primary and secondary structural elements for platforms such as the F-35 Lightning II, the CH-53K Heavy-lift Helicopter and the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile (JASSM). The Lead Industrial Engineering is responsible for leading a team of industrial engineers, overseeing process improvement projects that drive efficiency, quality, and productivity improvements within manufacturing operations. This role involves leading process optimization initiatives, designing and improving workflows, and implementing cutting-edge technologies to achieve operational excellence. The role involves mentoring and guiding the team to develop innovative solutions, optimizing workflows, and ensuring alignment with lean manufacturing principles and business objectives. Additionally, you will coordinate cross-functional initiatives, set project priorities, and ensure that all engineering efforts are completed on time, within scope, and budget
AEC is committed to delivering high-quality, economical composite solutions to our customers. Significant investment in infrastructure and automation ensures AEC is positioned to maximize that value, offering the right processes to meet our customer's needs. Key Responsibilities:
- Process Improvement and Optimization:
- Lead and manage large-scale process improvement projects aimed at reducing waste, improving efficiency, and enhancing product quality.
- Conduct time studies, work measurements, and workflow analyses to identify inefficiencies and implement corrective actions.
- Develop and implement lean manufacturing strategies (such as Kaizen, 5S, and Value Stream Mapping) to improve plant performance.
- Project Leadership:
- Oversee and manage the engineering lifecycle for projects, from initial concept through design, testing, and implementation.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget.
- Drive continuous improvement projects related to automation, ergonomics, and cost reduction.
- Data Analysis and Modeling:
- Utilize data analytics to assess process performance, develop models to predict outcomes, and identify areas for improvement.
- Design simulations and create data-driven solutions for optimizing production flow, reducing cycle times, and improving overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
- Capacity Planning and Layout Design:
- Lead facility layout planning and design to optimize space utilization, material flow, and production capacity.
- Develop models to assess capacity and production requirements in alignment with business growth plans.
- Technology Implementation:
- Stay updated on the latest manufacturing technologies and best practices, such as Industry 4.0, automation, robotics, and advanced manufacturing techniques.
- Lead the implementation of technology upgrades and automation solutions to improve productivity and reduce costs.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):
- Develop and maintain standardized work instructions and operating procedures to ensure consistency and quality in production processes.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to train personnel on new or updated procedures.
- Lean Six Sigma:
- Serve as the subject matter expert on lean principles and Six Sigma methodologies, driving data-driven problem solving and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and coach team members on process improvement methodologies, fostering a culture of operational excellence.
- Cost Reduction and Productivity Improvement:
- Identify opportunities to reduce operational costs through labor optimization, material usage, and process refinement.
- Lead initiatives to improve productivity, reduce downtime, and eliminate non-value-added activities.
- Collaboration and Leadership:
- Work closely with other engineering teams, production supervisors, and senior management to develop and execute strategic initiatives.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers and cross-functional teams.
- Drive alignment between operational goals and long-term business objectives.
- KPI Management:
- Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as cycle time, throughput, OEE, and production costs.
- Continuously review performance metrics and recommend improvements to meet or exceed targets.
