Position Purpose |
This position serves as a strategic and operational leader and collaborator - with the primary focus on the design of the built and natural environment of campus properties. The purpose includes ensuring development and application of design standards for buildings, systems, landscape, and hardscape. In addition, the position provides guidance and oversight of the design process to ensure consistency in approach and business processes. The position is charged with leading the effort to define, communicate and achieve the "aesthetic and materials vision" for campus assets and new construction, renovation, and renewal initiatives. The position has responsibilities that include leadership, facilitation, and advising and requires cross functional collaboration and coordination with colleagues in planning, project management, operations, sustainability, and other campus clients and departments. |
Description |
This position leads the effort to achieve the "aesthetic and materials vision" for Dartmouth College's campus assets and new construction and renovation. Dartmouth facilities include over 6.5 million square feet of space in 165 buildings, serving over 5,900 students and 4,000 faculty and staff in a variety of academic, research, administrative, athletic, and residential spaces. |

Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience |
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities |
- Bachelor's degree in Architecture, or a similar field.
- Licensure as an architect in New Hampshire, or the ability to obtain by reciprocity within one year.
- 10 years of experience in planning and design in a campus environment. This could be as an employee of an institution or as practicing professional providing planning and design services to an institution.
- Experience developing design standards and managing design processes.
- Experience and certifications in sustainability or high performance buildings.
- Valid driver's license and ability to qualify as a Dartmouth Approved Driver.

Preferred Qualifications |
- Master's degree in Architecture, Urban Planning, or a related field.
- 15 years of experience in planning and design in a campus environment - preferably in an environment that has included significant experience managing both the built and natural environment.
